Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Canberra has been monitoring the sewerage for the last month and no signs of the virus, so pretty sure the town is virus free. They now have 14 day quarantine for anyone coming to Canberra from Victorian hotspots and will be checking at the airport, although I would have thought road travel more of an issue....

Nsw And SA would also be in the driving sights....according to ABC, Queensland is worried about Victorian smuggling Queensland police warn against attempts to smuggle in travellers from Victoria during coronavirus border ban

But I thought the authorities haven't clarified where the 10,000 figure came from? It may include the significant number of people in hotel quarantine who refused testing over the last 3.5 months
I don’t believe so - when I was watching it was in the context of the current testing that was happening in hotspots and she was clearly frustrated that they had had so many refusals when they were trying to get things under control.
Agree with Flying mermaid.....the context was this hotspot door knock. To me I’m not sure the timeframe - last 24 hours (since the lockdown of hotspots) or since the blitz testing was announced or somewhere in between...

Talking to colleagues in Northern Ireland last night - 7 yo had a 40 degree fever so mum, dad and three kids under 9 had to go to a car park to be tested - they were given the swabs and mum and dad had to take their own swabs and then swab their kids and hand over the swabs- apparently not pleasant or fun for everyone and I would be concerned that they may not take them correctly

That is excellent news.

Hopefully they're not just going through the motions.

I often groan and frustrated at AFF not providing a groan button, but much respect for a person who is quick witted, a great sense of humour and has a good command of the English language to create puns etc in a flash. 👏👍

"Canberra" has been monitoring the sewerage - not much else interesting to do on cold wintry days? ;)

According to The Age link below, the 10,000 refusals is over the last week. A number of these (which could be 2 or 2000, we don't know) have been due to the belief that the virus is a conspiracy/hoax.

We have a wonderful infectious diseases guy in Canberra called Professor Collignon. He is a fan of sewerage monitoring for a range of reasons. :).

Well, I thought I heard the police saying that they’d seen these attempts, which is presumedly why the Premier said it. I don’t Know why you think Qld needs to be embarrassed. They’re out drinking beer and going to the beach, are they not.
And, with 10K people refusing testing, lying down under a blanket to get to Qld would not be entirely surprising.

OMG I mean how much dumber could we look, how embarrassing. On behalf of QLD'ers I apologise for this rubbish, this is not reflective of how most of us feel and this sort of garbage is just divisive dribble. How disappointing.

I’m embarrassed because our leaders should know better that to repeat this tabloid fodder knowing exactly what kind of reaction it engenders.

They need to be better than this.

Unfortunately there is an election imminent here so do whatever it takes I suppose...
