Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Well you could tighten up the definition of essential. e.g. is construction really essential?
Im going to say new home builds is yes, essential plus most tradies only work in small groups/teams and not when other tradies are on site. Families with new homes being built are being financially stressed as well by the delays

Gladys is clearly saying we will not be going for covid zero post 80%. A "co-existance" with Delta.

Very refreshing. Just need the other 5 premiers, 2 chief ministers and 2 prime ministers to say the same.
long as we can fly in and out of SYD those sling blade WA'ers can do what they like lol

So if Victoria makes bike stores permissible, and NSW doesn't - except if you can justify that it's essential, you think the Victorian approach is better?

The permissible businesses list is pretty similar between the states. I'm sure there are grey areas on either side.
Maybe NSW will do some back-pedalling?

It will happen, just a matter of when. The fact that NSW is the most populous state makes a difference. Ironically NSW will end up being the most free state later when most people are vaccinated, and NSWers will accept living with the virus. Other smaller states will have a harder time convincing their residents to open up.

Well as Australia no longer exists as a country, I would like to point out that you can buy alcohol in the supermarkets in the civilised country of the ACT 😆

You realise if this federation project goes pear-shaped, you're coming with us.

(Pretty sure the ACT rules are the same as NSW with supermarket liquor stores. It's legal but Coles & Woolworths put them in an attached store; Aldi & Costco do it)

My friends and I often talk about this, it's quite similar to the UK and USA. They're far freer than us now (UK has a better outcome because they are pretty much at 80% double jabbed, the US is not).

I think the Queenslanders and West Australians will look on with envy if they're still subject to lockdowns for single cases when NSW (and probably VIC) are living life almost completely normally; exactly how we look to the UK and USA now.

I’m down with that @justinbrett! I grew up in Newie so more than happy to return to my poverty-stricken roots 😆

Completely impractical as would leave major hospitals non functional, if you take Westmead (which includes Children's hospital), Liverpool (major chemo centre), Fairfield, Bankstown, Blacktown and other hospitals out of the network you are leaving well over a million people with no emmergency care,
Note I excluded doctors and obviously hospitals remain open.. I'm merely suggesting a much harsher definition of authorised/essential workers and near total shutdown of businesses in the core LGAs is needed for a short period to shock down infections and give us time to get people vaccinated.

And if you can maintain say police services for two weeks by drafting in police from outside the LGAs then you do. It's all about stopping the workplace spread for two weeks, which kicks down family spread.

Without any changes those major hospitals are non-functional shortly anyway.

The current R has NSW at 1000 cases by end August and 5000 by end September, the majority in the S/ SW of Sydney. That's well before you get anywhere near enough vaccinations.

By that point your emergency wards are overloaded... And you have few doctors or nurses that aren't either infected or isolating after being a close contact.

Most encouraging and realistic NSW Premier has been in a long while, great to see
Whatever else you think of her in regards to speed of lockdown, she’s always been the most pragmatic and forward looking of the premiers in terms of laying out a way forward to relative normality. It’s clearly a balance though, even today she was asked if spending time on describing future points of relaxation was confusing people when we still have high number of cases. Not confusing me but clearly some of the journalists seem to be and they are supposedly intelligent people.

Vic Presser. 57 Cases, of which only 13 had some time in the wild.

1 person on a ventilator.

44 Cases in quarantine: 41 of 44 cases were day 13 tests. Principally linked to Al Taqwa (38).
Edit added: 100% of Al Taqwa people in quarantine had a day 1 test. = Very good compliance

Vaccination status of 529 recent cases
  • 80 eligible for vaccination but had not been vaccinated
  • 45 one dose of vaccine
  • 23 fully vaccinated
  • Others were not eligible for vaccine
Of the 14 cases currently in hospital, five were not eligible for vaccines, nine had been eligible but hadn't received it.
"None were either partially or fully vaccinated."
Professor Cowie said this showed both Pfizer and AstraZeneca prevented transmission, serious illness and loss of life.

Jeroen: 295 active cases
  • 44 See above - quaranting
In the wild for at least some time:
  • 10 thru contact tracing (linked)
  • 3 new mystery cases today
    • Glenroy
    • Ascot Vale
    • Doncaster
3000 contacts were released yesterday after day 13 tests were negative.

Oh you'll hate Newcastle then, it's been gentrified!
I know! I took driving lessons with my dad on the old wharf area in the late 1970s and that is now all upmarket apartments and eateries! I went to the Star before the riot! I went to the Castanet Club when it was amazing! I went to Newcastle Uni when the suburb was not defined - certainly not called Callaghan, before the John Hunter Hospital existed! Before the M23! So pretty old school. But I’ve really liked what I see on my infrequent work trips and passing through to Queensland trips when those were things I was allowed to do. Maybe one day I will be allowed to visit again.

yes marked difference from yesterday, must have got some feedback (or is a member here and has been reading my posts - most obvious answer ............)
yesterday it was 'still need to be influenced by cases after 80%'
today its 'need to learn to live with delta in a vaccinated community'

much much much more realistic message.

Also looks like Central Coast and Wollongong/Shellharbour have now been removed from the Covid definition for Greater Sydney.

So travel passes will be required for authorised workers.

My theory is Gladys and Mark McGowan have the same speech writer, and they accidently sent the wrong speech to Gladys that time.

Let me see my familyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Interesting point, when NSW gets to 80% double jabbed, why can't Sydney international arrivals come straight in if they're vaccinated and come from similar locations like the UK? Do we really need to wait for QLD & WA if their borders are shut anyway?

double the amount in, treble the amount in, multiply it by 10 and get all the stranded aussies back in 2-3 weeks with what? 50 cases 100? compared to about a what? 4 hour period in NSW at current transmission rates

Another day where journalist asks for data - eg percentage of workers, percentage of asymptomatic tests - and end up hearing nothing.

Anyway - some/most on this thread not interested in data - big numbers do people's head in.

I doubt they would know. They don't ask many questions when you get tested.
