Dan's up - full stick, not a carrot in sight
Yawn. We've heard it all before.

It is going to make zero difference. They still don't get it.

"The government has played its part, but it's people who make decisions. If we have a weekend like last weekend, it will be like Sydney."

Yawwwwwwn.

Edit: People going to watch the sun set are in the crosshairs now. lol

my WORD Barr isnt saying it but he is saying it, he wants 100% vaccinated before letting a single person step outside their door again, good god, GROW A PAIR man

Vic Presser: Dan Andrews

Asked all Victorians to follow the rules and especially this weekend as the way to get out of lockdown. Also wants people to not look for loopholes.

Has asked people to make good choices this weekend and to stay at home.

No new measures announced. Flagged that numbers need to not keep rising in order to not have new measures.

With Shepparton at this stage people are just being asked to get tested (ie not extra restrictions). 3 new testing facilities set up.

Of particular note,13 cases at MyCentre Broadmeadows Multicultural Youth Centre. Earliest infection likely to have been back to 11 August.

However it seems in the main to be a kindergarten MyCentre Childcare So child care would be the reason for operating.

The first case in this cluster was found due to investigating the Glenroy Primary School cluster.

Greater Shepparton SC declared a Tier 1 Site. (Note Jeroen at the presser seemed unaware, but he has been at the presser for some time)

Though note this is very early and so the exact status and who Tier 1 may apply to may well change.

"This is a STOP and STAY order which includes ALL household members," the letter said.
"You must stay at home until further notice from the department of health. This includes not going to get tested at this time.
"Please stay at home until further notification."

PS. It has been pretty standard this outbreak that if there is a positive case at a school for any length of time that the school goes into a Tier 1 Setting.

Dan just admitted "It's not because we didn't lockdown fast enough, we did. Delta is different".

I can hear Gladys screaming "I told you so" 800km away.

I think Dan mentioned Sydney far more times than Melbourne in his presser.

He blamed Sydney for the virus "it came from Sydney" and constantly referred to Sydney, as though it had the worst outbreak anywhere in the world.

So much for not commenting on other states line that he was using a few weeks back.

Bunnings and other major retailers are being forced to close their doors as harsher restrictions were announced as part of Sydney’s lockdown.

The new rules will apply to Sydney’s 12 local government areas of concern, with retailers such as Officeworks and Bunnings being ordered to close their stores and only offer click and collect from Monday, August 23.

Bunings has previously been cited as an example of “lockdown light” and why Sydney cannot get on top of the outbreak.

The retail outlets that will be impacted by the new measures include garden centres and plant nurseries, office supplies, hardware and building supplies, landscaping material supplies, rural supplies, and pet supplies.

However, tradies are allowed to shop in-store where relevant.

Jacinta as well.

I don't recall Gladys ever blaming Joe Biden for the NSW outbreak.

Sure, you can blame the initial outbreak on the source (maybe, not if your borders are closed), but after that it's on you.

PM flags no big decisions from National Cabinet

National Cabinet is meeting this afternoon where state and territory leaders will discuss the response to both COVID-19 and the crisis in Afghanistan.

On the COVID-front, the group will go over the increasing vaccination rates and also continue to work on the plan for how to vaccinate children aged 12 to 15 if the expert vaccine panel gives it the green light next week.

Mr Morrison said today's meeting was about getting "status updates" and wouldn't be followed by any announcements.

But he did take the opportunity to applaud the record numbers of people turning out to get their vaccinations, with more than 300,000 people receiving a jab yesterday.

He also issued a reminder to anyone in lockdown that is struggling with their mental health to reach out to services like Lifeline and Beyond Blue, saying the government has "surged" support into those services.
