Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Are we talking full Melbourne lockdown?
I'd say that heavily depends on the raw numbers & percentage of positives that have come out of the housing towers, as you'd expect the results would be flowing through out of the laboratories by now.

If I had to guess, I would not be surprised to see an immediate return to stage 3 restrictions across metropolitan Melbourne. The Andrews government set a precedent last week in the postcode specific lockdown zones in giving grants of thousands of dollars to businesses returning to stage 3, so whatever will happen will be rather costly.

191 cases in Victoria confirmed

191 new #COVID19Aus cases in

Victoria

• 37 linked to known outbreaks
• 154 under investigation (so categories will change later)

Unfortunately my guess is that the apartments will be large today in case numbers. I say unfortunate as the people there are more likely on average to have poor outcomes from catching Covid 19 than the general population. I hope that I am wrong.

Only 13 linked to towers I saw

Not great when my daughter is based in Melbourne and is due to give birth in the next 7 days...:(
My daughter had a 6 week early Bub in late January. By the time they got Bub home we were going into restrictions, so it was pretty miserable. Midwife stopped coming as did the lactation consultant. Lots of services went online but it was difficult. We kept visiting to provide support.

And I’m sure very much welcomed and appreciated. New mums need lots of human contact especially for their first. Sad to hear so much support was withdrawn because online stuff doesn’t really carry the same impact.
I’m babysitting today! Unwell with virus so no childcare. At the splendid age of 11 months. Such a joy. And such a chatterer just like his dad. His new mum was probably luckier as being born in August meant that lactation issues had been addressed prior. But she sure missed the new mums group from the ‘same month’ playgroup.

SA was going to open ACT and NSW with an announcement last Friday. They stopped it. Obviously Victoria coupled with their school holidays and free transit to NSW from Victoria squashed that plan.
NSW and ACT can enter SA with 2 weeks quarantine and they hope to relax that on 20 July, if cases don’t grow in ACT and NSW. hard border now between SA and Vic for at least 2 weeks and probably 4.

Daniel Andrews to speak at 3:15

I am so glad we continued visiting. We were allowed to in the ACT and she wasn’t seeing anyone else. So amazing to have been involved in our grand daughters life from the beginning and seen all the changes! She is known as the tiny dictator :)

Vic school holidays extended for a week in public schools (and likely others)

Has anyone heard anything about the situation with Melbourne airport? Out of Tasmania, we have no choice but to pass through Melbourne, regardless of our final destination. Logically, one would expect some sort of transit permit. I'm thinking they may cut back flights out of Melbourne but they'll cause some big issues with freight if they cancel entirely.

This concerns me too as regards transit. We are flying Adelaide Cairns direct next month but Jetstar has a habit on cancelling this flight and rereouting through Eastern States. If SA doesn't change their NSW border stance or worse, we get routed through Melbourne then well, I have no idea.

Qantas did mention saying they would consider running QFLink services to Sydney, but doubt any other capital would get a look in. Numbers won't be there. Unless underwritten.

I'm due in Adelaide next Friday. Qantas have no connecting flight from Launceston to Adelaide. Last trip, I flew to Melbourne and drove. Not sure that'll work this time as I'm not too keen on getting lynched at the border.
Other option is to drive to Hobart and fly Jetstar, but they still route through Melbourne.
I reckon you'll be OK on your Cairns trip next month. They'll have to sort something out for transiting; either that or make major changes to flight routes and that'll cause chaos with freight. I was on a A330 Mel-Syd last week and they had twenty tons of freight on board. The passengers are only there to subsidise the freight route.

I know precovid both JQ and VA had SYD-LST services.
The JQ service annoyed me as the aircraft would fly MCY-SYD then SYD-LST.Of course I could not fly MCY-LST as they wanted me to pickup the bag in SYD and re check it on the SYD-LST service.Seeing I was going to work at least 2 months HCO just wouldn't work for me.
But I did use the VA service a couple of times.

PS SYD-LST and return on the JQ website starting 24/7.
