Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

For SYD members, how are you finding this morning's reopening? Reading morning news about midnight queues at pubs, Kmart etc.

I thought the UK was being rash (to put it mildly) with its 'Freedom Day' but apparently the sky hasn't fallen in there, so keen to hear about the NSW approach.

I went to local cafe and they had tables and chairs you could actually SIT in. Out of habit I still bought take-away. Local station actually had people on platform waiting for a train! Station has been deserted for months.

Sky is still there but very greyish.

Give it a few days to see where case numbers go.

There’s been a fair bit of illegal gathering (there’s a phrase I’d like to consign to history) happening already so I don’t expect a huge outbreak from homes.

A lot of people are quite cautious emerging, still a bit of outdoor mask wearing.

Noticeable increase in traffic, no longer just the tradie Grand Prix.

Been to the gym already, they suspended everyone’s membership and will only reactivate it once you’ve emailed in your vaccination certificate. You can’t book a class without your membership obviously.

Todays sudden return to winter like temperatures being 10+ degrees cooler than past week and grey skies mean many wont have ventured out yet for outdoor dining. I will report back after my lunch run, lots of places typically dont open on amomdays even in normal times.

Stocking up on $2 imported plastic items was a priority for some!

Trying my luck at Just Cuts this morning when they open at 9am...

Going to be a busy day

It was sensible to have the restrictions lifted on a busy working day. Many of us have too much on to go out and realise our "freedoms". Will probably not get much of a chance to explore before Wednesday.

Hubby was at the post office and outside the barber was at least 30 people lined up... but the barber announced they are only accepting cash. Whats up with that, avoiding tax recording?

I also noticed footage showing the exclusive Sydney hairdresser with clients walking in at midnight, none of them wearing masks and so many idiots at Blacktown Kmart (I was born and raised in Blacktown, I would not be venturing out of my house at that time of night in Blacktown).

My office is trying to get a return to office plan - knowing the numbers will be a poop show in 3 weeks, I have no intention on going back until after Christmas.

What happens Wednesday? Lockdown comes back?

Could it be something to do with the vaccination requirement? Cash customers can't be traced so he can't be done for cutting the hair of someone not entitled to a hair cut?

Good point....

Or could just be avoiding missing out on a % cut to the bank/cc processer to pay long overdue rents and overheads to keep them from bankruptcy due to being closed for so long....

If looking to British Columbia or Ontario as a State/provincial guide, NSW will probably rise back to about/under 1000 known positives. Hopefully NSW only look at hospital numbers or ICU numbers or positives that are unvaccinated to institute targeted restrictions on the unvaccinated - but that might make too much sense. (but then unvaccinated aren't out in an unrestricted way until 1 December?!)

It would be interesting if the NSW Government doesn’t do anything until it gets to about 50% of the peak of covid hospital patients (which was 1268, so maybe 500-600 as a round figure) and/or covid ICU patients (which was 242, so maybe say 100 as a round figure) recently experienced and at that point institute changes to elective surgery and lockdown of unvaccinated and mandate masks (how likely are unvaxxed willing to wear masks??)

Not many dining outside because its freezing and raining.

A few old ladies inside the hairdressers, they are only taking bookings no walk ins, I'm all set for Saturday. Outside the barber however there were at 30 blokes waiting (no appointments there). Nail Salon was at (its reduced) capacity.

A few were dining inside at cafe when i picked up my coffee and one inside the thai restaurant when i picked up my lunch.

Everyone on the street in my local was still masked, noting I only went to my local not anywhere a shopping centre/mall.

Got to Just Cuts on opening at 9am, was quoted an hour wait, ended up being 2.5 hour wait. It got up to 4 hour wait by the time I left.

Newcastle CBD very busy with traffic.

Going to see a movie in Gold Class tonight and it looks like the session is nearly sold out.

Freedom has definitely arrived. Miserable day up here too but I've got no problem with drinking in the rain ;)
