For SYD members, how are you finding this morning's reopening?
Westfield free parking back to 3hr free.

I did a big shop yesterday - essentials of course (incl Tim Tams at half price)

I’ll let the crowd disperse a bit before getting haircuts - the hair cutters need some practice first.

Watch out for inflation spiking and interest rates to be jacked up. Fuel prices will zoom up.

Now is the time to do online woolies shopping. Better get the Christmas shopping done now

Basically waiting for 80% for me

The Star would never allow the underclass and unclean (probably CovidSpreaders as well) to make an appearance on their premises.
In any case it would take too long for a UberEats rider to get into the Star to pickup an order.
A classy Japanese restaurant would never stoop to deivering Sushi
Annandalers would be probably freak out if their neighbours saw them order via UberEats.
🤣
Clearly you haven't been there much! The last few years the typical Sat night crowd looks like a DJ Khaled Lookalike Competition, full of Bankstown's finest...

Got to Just Cuts on opening at 9am, was quoted an hour wait, ended up being 2.5 hour wait. It got up to 4 hour wait by the time I left.

Newcastle CBD very busy with traffic.

Going to see a movie in Gold Class tonight and it looks like the session is nearly sold out.

Freedom has definitely arrived. Miserable day up here too but I've got no problem with drinking in the rain ;)

Did you try the app?

None of the inner suburbs were accepting app checkin, but I had success in a former dirty LGA that was only 15 mins away. App said 40 mins. I was seated at about 45 (checked in before I drove out).

Also managed to actually sit and have a bowl of noodles. What a novelty!

I live about 500m from one, so did the double prong approach - lined up at 9am (no earlier) but planned to use the app before getting to the front of the queue. My one never opened to app check in (it's in the Newcastle CBD). The suburban ones did but all had 120+ minutes.

By lunch I noticed a lot of the suburban ones subsequently closed to app check in.

When I was chatting with them they said they have quite a few hairdressers not vaccinated so they are understaffed. Might be a bigger problem outside of Sydney. The Newcastle LGA double vax rate is only 58%, we are a long way behind Sydney (first jab is above 85% though so we'll get there).

Edit - looks like the Newcastle CBD one has now opened to app check in and wait time down to 90 minutes - most of the other ones are about the same too.

Another flight from MEL to ADL with covid positive passenger.

All passengers and crew being sent to 14 days of quarantine.

SA are trailing RAT this week at ADL airport for interstate arrivals, sign of the future?

We seem to be entering into a new period of craziness. As more people are vaccinated, there are going to be more asymptomatic people about. Some of these are going to travel. If every time SA detects a positive they react by slamming fellow travellers with fourteen days soft, there's going to be a lot of very annoyed people soon.
What's the point of being double vaccinated if you end up in quarantine, simply because you were at the other end of a plane from someone who tested positive?

Thankyou to the AFF Sydney family for sharing your experiences today - believe it or not - I enjoyed seeing life returning to ‘normal‘. I’m glad for you….
Amazing how haircuts are first order priority as they should be…
Soon it will be our turn in Melbourne. Thank goodness I book 4+ haircuts ahead and who knew -in April this year - I would book an appt for the day after our proposed lockdown due to end (🤞).
I just hope the hairdresser recognises the badger who comes through the door.

You mean apart from the obvious?
I've been double vaccinated for ~5 months now and it's meant nothing so far in terms of day to day life for me. Doesn't mean I regret having it or that there was no point in having it, but I think the post you quoted makes a very good point.

Ahem.... AFF NSW family!

Lots of other places in NSW that have been in lockdown too!

Sorry
I was unsure how much of the state opened up..
I’ve lost track of what’s going on in my own state

About another half a million in Greater Newcastle as well, and we were the first region to join Sydney so we’ve been in lockdown for a long time too (not counting Orange who were released from their initial lockdown)

Interesting that Newcastle can travel elsewhere in the regions but we have more cases than most areas of Sydney. It’s actually a bit annoying we can’t travel to Sydney as the two cities are very closely linked with a lot of family connections. At least it won’t be much longer until that is removed.

NSW LGA below 70% 2Jab as of today in descending order of %
Newcastle/Lake Macquarie/Cessnock/Maitland/Dungog/singleton/Muswellbrook/Port Stephens are part of the "Hunter"
And there are already relatively high cases in those areas.
(Port Stephens 70% 2jab so not included in this table and cases in last 4 weeks 61)

People often think that Newcastle is adjacent to Sydney but it is not. In fact the Lake Macquarie LGA is closer to Sydney than Newcastle

Newcastle LGA size is very small only 190sqkm, slightly larger than Queanbeyan LGA
In Greater Sydney there are LGA with high number of cases and low number of cases.
So it is better to include Newcastle as a regional LGA if for no other reason that it is actually "Regional". I suppose the “Hunter” can be separated from “Regional”
But that would be politically very messy and goes against the general message

The main queues I saw today were outside barber shops! Cafes were not overlay busy - my morning spot had a couple of people dining in and place I met for a meeting was about 30% busy.

They pile up in NSW keeping our hotels nice and full while whinging at their premier or Lord Mayor (sorry territories)
If ACT hits 98% fully vaccinated mid December, how is ANY quarantine justified at all. There again ACT does not want international flights, because if it did, it would allow irregular charter flights.
I wanted to visit Quatar Whale Sharks in April to Sept, because via WA is much more expensive.
Also some India direct flights at their festival time. The Murray's express to Sydney Airport is a testament to economic inefficiency.

Well I am out of lockdown in NSW today and went straight to my nail salon. The same one that had the broken eftpos machine.

The whole place has been totally renovated, looks amazing.
Sadly the machine hasn’t survived the renos.
Must have been stood on or something.
But my nails are looking fab.
Next appointments lashes and hair.

Decided to leave the drinks and dining for a bit.
Shrek can now make a mean Cosmo.
