Was that sausage as bad as it looks

From all the correspondence so far, I'm guessing that most of those flying out of Hobart in the early morning are totally unconcerned about the fact that there are often no meals on offer. Anyone from Qantas reading this will think it is OK to not offer meals in business class. I have always thought it was very cheeky on the part of Qantas. "Leaving too early for catering" is absolutely no excuse. Whether the passenger wants the meal or not isn't the point. If there is not going to be any meal service, we should be forewarned well ahead of the flight and an appropriate refund should be offered. After all, it is advertised as a full service flight.
Can confirm meal offering on the 0600 depature. This was 10/4 QF1290 HBA-MEL. Both were hot options. Can't remember what the other was exactly but was 'egg adjacent'.

QF781 MEL-PER Mon April 7 332 VH-EBG “Barossa Valley”, scheduled dep 1955 pushback 2000 takeoff 2012 (27)

Good to be back on a widebody for the trip home, smooth flight and excellent service from CSM Andrew and FAs Mary and Katrina. One of those flights where the crew in J really make you feel valued, fitting for the flight that finally got me across the finish line of LTG.

Pre dinner drinks offered not long after the seat belt sign off, very happy to see that the Starwood Australian single malt was on the list; while no Lagavulin, this is definitely better than the usual Chivas blend. Usual Santos accompaniment.

A beef ragout was one of the dinner options, but having had an unexpectedly good one of these in the lounge, went with the other hot choice of roast chicken, veggies and mushroom sauce. Unashamedly comfort food, but the chicken was good and it hit the spot tonight. A reasonably good smoked salmon coleslaw on the side.

Unfortunately the Credaro chardonnay was not on offer tonight, so went with the Byron and Harold Rags to Riches Shiraz, a West Australian producer I hadn't heard of before now, $30 on QF wine. Medium bodied and agreeable, but many better reds in that price bracket, so stuck to one.

Very hearty and a good portion, really hit the spot. Tasted a bit like a gourmet cheeseburger.

Other options were a fruit salad or sourdough toast with feta, rocket and tomato.
Maybe should feature those on the panini bar!

QF9 17/4

IMG_3940.jpegIMG_3941.jpegIMG_3942.jpegIMG_3943.jpegIMG_3935.jpegIMG_3934.jpeg

The tasting plate to start, followed by the barra and chocolate mousse.

No complaints on the dinner service, tasting plate was a bit different but was light and enjoyable. Generally I stay away from fish on flights but QF is one of the few that does it well and this was no exception - was fresh and tasty and the mouse was a excellent dessert to finish.

The drinks menu was standard QF I had 1 glass of red and it was very meh - likewise the champagne.

Breakfast was a smoked salmon with banana bread was a bit random I thought but enjoyable none the less.

First time on a direct flight to Europe, have to say I found it much better than I was expecting - absolutely flew by - slept for a solid 8 hours I think was great getting a full nights sleep with no stopover. I wish the PER dept time was later though - 5am is far too early to arrive and stagger through the day.

Service was friendly, usual standard, dare I say I find the UK based crew better than our local counterparts.

I'm glad you posted the menu because I couldn't figure out what that fish dish was just from the terrible presentation!

I have to agree with you. QF9 flight does seem to just fly by and give you a decent sleep. Having taken the QR option via DOH and splitting it up leaves you feeling much less rested.

As for the early arrival into LHR, I do agree it makes for a long day and a struggle. However, I dont think arriving much later would make much difference though. Plus arriving into the airport when empty and no traffic in London makes getting to your destination a breeze.

Do certain passengers from Qantas flights still get access to an arrivals lounge at LHR, viz I think it used to be the AA Arrivals Lounge (if it still exists)?

Mind, the AA Arrivals wasn't much, but it can be a decent buffer zone for those who arrive super early and don't quite want to head right into town yet. (Can also help if hotel has zero chance of checking one in that early)
