It’s been irrelevant for many months. Just certain individuals pushing barrows. AFF would be far better without this. Can't wait for the time that this thread becomes irrelevant as well and we can close it...
Because other countries don't support the argument such as Japan where mask wearing is just as frequent as Singapore, borders closed in practical terms and they social distance yet for 3 of the last 4 weeks the highest number of new cases in the world. Why cite just one country?
It's annoying, as I'm flying to Cairns next week. Why not lift the mask mandates immediately? What is so magic about 9th September? Is it ‘the science’?
Not sure why/how you contort "masks as good as over" (because people don't want to wear them) with their use not being beneficial. There are plenty of pre-Covid papers on the benefits of (various kinds of) masks for respiratory Issues. That people may not wear them properly doesn't imply that a properly warn mask isn't beneficial. Individuals can make their own decisions about whether/how mask wearing protects themselves or others. I've done > weekly RATs and a few PCRs and remained -ve even whilst partner had COVID (daily testing for us both). Masks, social distancing, and hand hegiene - who knows what worked but flu is bad and I've siblings who's second COVID dose was much worse than their first. As you’ve been told many times, masks are as good as over.
Agree. But the best way to counter misinformation is to present the correct information. It sort of is, as it basically consists of 2 people who will never agree with each other, having the same arguments they've been having for the last 2 years.
And there has been some astonishing misinformation posted by a so-called front-line health worker. Married to a geriatrician. Unbelievable...Agree. But the best way to counter misinformation is to present the correct information.

Unfortunately in this thread that doesn't help.Agree. But the best way to counter misinformation is to present the correct information.

Maybe it’s because they are testing more than any other. You wouldn’t have a clue how many positive cases there are here in Australia. We may have more than them?Because other countries don't support the argument such as Japan where mask wearing is just as frequent as Singapore, borders closed in practical terms and they social distance yet for 3 of the last 4 weeks the highest number of new cases in the world.
Except they did not change their testing process from when the case numbers were much lower.Maybe it’s because they are testing more than any other. You wouldn’t have a clue how many positive cases there are here in Australia. We may have more than them?
I've always been a glass half full person but that has nothing to do with my opinion on what's going on.Oh JohnK that sums up you though for everything Nothing to do with the virus
I think I posted why I'm overseas.JohnK is travelling overseas right now so I'm a little confused because most people who want to have mask mandates and are very concerned about catching Covid just aren't willing to risk travel overseas.
You are receiving this email as you have received a COVID-19 vaccine at a Queensland Health vaccination centre. This email provides information about the QoVAX Statewide study and offers you the opportunity to participate. The study team has NOT been given your personal information or email address.
What will the QoVAX SET Statewide Study tell us?
The information collected from the QoVAX Statewide study will help us to better understand:
The QoVAX study will also support researchers and health services to track, explain, and make decisions about ongoing vaccine programs and plan for current and future COVID-19 responses in the community.
- the health outcomes of people who have and have not been vaccinated against COVID-19
- the health outcomes of Queenslanders who have been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19
- what factors affect the immune response to the COVID-19 vaccines
- what can cause vaccinated and unvaccinated people to get very sick from the COVID-19 virus.
Who can take part in the QoVAX Statewide study? You might be able to take part if you:
.
- have received a COVID-19 vaccine in the past 12 months OR have not received any COVID-19 vaccine
- are 18 years or older and a resident of Queensland
- can read and understand the consent form.
.
Please visit the Queensland Health website to complete an online questionnaire and receive your instructions to provide an optional blood sample at participating pathology collection centres at two time points - now and in 12-months’ time.
Well it does kind of accord with the general understanding of viruses that previous exposure offers some level of immunity (notwithstanding the fact that the virus is mutating all the time so it’s not the same virus as a year ago). My experience (for what it’s worth- single data points don’t prove much) is that while I know plenty of people getting it for the first time I also know a fair few who are Re-infections.An interesting article on the ABC website today about the recent surge. 80% of the cases are in people who have not had Covid. Of the reinfections most were in the elderly or those with underlying health conditions.
I haven’t mastered the ability to link articles on the iPhone but can take screenshots so here is the title of the article.

And an interesting graph from the ACT.

Also interesting that Singapore is reporting the same numbers as regards the proportion of new cases.
