Still not hard enough restrictions IMO but Dan has got to look after his Union mates

We will have to await the list of workplaces. Though they did say two days ago that the measures would take into account workplaces and where transmission is occurring with respect to this new range of restrictions.

So what restrictions should we have?

And what union mates do you think are being looked after with these new restrictions?
Are construction sites being shut down?

I can’t fathom how pubs and fast food places like McDonalds etc are allowed to remain open.
Should be essential grocery stores only.
These new restrictions aren’t even at the levels NZ had

But they are a heck of a lot more draconian than Taiwan.
We really need to get tough with the idiots.

ignore the quip.....Clearly more will get frustrated.

By itself the night curfew doesn’t seem likely to be able to have a meaningful impact. You are still allowed to leave for care and work. Do they really think there have been transmissions at night that have been occurring?? It really puzzles me.

Vic has been talking about transmission in the workplace

we will have to see what work types tomorrow.

but I personally think NZ style - close everything except grocery, petrol, pharmac_, medical and any work that can be done solely at home.

The horse has bolted, but still think community isolation facilities for those testing positive (and if required, those who are dependent on them for care) should be there to effectively quarantine positive cases. But in Australia you can't lockup a small number of people up only lockdown everyone. ;)

Does Vic quarantine facilities number 10,000? I think that how many is needed at the one time For this to have practical legs

Yes as I said, the horse has bolted. But could be practical in regional centres for the much smaller numbers presenting outside metro Melbourne.

I think we may lose access to childcare, depending on their definition of essential. So far universities have been essential but that may change.

I took the night curfew as being about certain groups (younger I suspect) who continue to be out and about. How many times jave we read about police raiding parties?

I think it was announced school and childcare closed, except for children of essential workers (to be defined tomorrow) and vulnerable/special needs children

Well that’s just poor enforcement by police.......which is steadily becoming a theme in Vic.

I think there have been some ladies still working at night that have caused problems.
if it’s not a quip, how is it happening when the other party is not going to work? Poor enforcement perhaps.

under the night curfew there is still an exception for work and care.

Police raiding parties poor enforcement? Huh?

Someone on their way to such a party, stopped by police, "Where are you going?", "Just on my way to get some takeaway at XYZ", "On your way then".. and instead of getting takeaway they go to the building next door and attend a party ... Unless we are actually operating a police state then it's difficult.

People visit each other, socialise, booze, gather as families and friends, drive around aimlessly after working hours, not social distancing. Now they aren't able to. If there is traffic all over the place 24/7, there are not enough police resources to monitor. Now if you are wandering around after 8pm, there are a very small number of reasons to be out and about.

More news tomorrow of industries that will be closed/limited. If you listened to the presser they are reviewing impacts on other states and import/exports an more than a dozen other factors. Melbourne has the largest port traffic in the country. If it closes other states will not get their supplies, national wide chains will suffer and not be able to trade. Things aren't as straight forward as it appears from the comfort of armchairs.

A NZ style close down, would run into multi $B impact to all states, not just Victoria

No conspiracy theories please.

How will these new measures be publicised in Victoria? Not everyone reads AFF or watches ABC News 24? Or can understand English?

If a Melburnian is already not allowed out unless for 1/4 reasons, does that not also apply at night? wasn’t there also the 1 visitor rule? I presumed the 1 visitor rule was for carers otherwise you can’t go out for non-work visits to friends houses.

now instead of 1/4 reasons, it’s 1/2 reasons.....they removed exercise and essential goods shopping, education (At night).

so still perplexing.

Prior to time when todays announcement comes into effect, no visitor rule applied for Melbourne/Mitchell shire (except for care or babysittting). 1 visitor rule for Geelong/Colac Otway/Surfcoast/Moorabool/Golden Plains/Queenscliffe. 5 visitor rule for rest of VIctoria.
