Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

When stage 4 was first applied in Vic, it was mentioned that Qantas Freight was impacted - does anyone know if this is back up and running? I find it terribly frustrating that reporting for Vic is so poor wrt impacted workplaces and venues, the other states much more forthcoming with details.

It is running again as of yesterday.

What’s the date on that video that I have not been able to look at? Was it like in the beginning, in the middle or recently?
It is the same one as I posted earlier today. Strangely 😉 it has now been replaced on heraldsun website. From memory but could be wrong I got the assumption it was done in June. Watching it this morning made me want to groan knowing how wrong they were to ‘celebrate’ their success.

One thing we saw out in SW QLD was a lot of caravans pulled by 4WD's with SA plates coming in through Innamincka then on to Thargomindah. They could also go through Quilpie so possibly a lot more than we saw.
I thought that would happen. And probably plenty more via Birdsville. Avoids the now impassable NSW!

Another bad day for NSW - 2 more unknown source.....

Of the 18 new cases reported to 8pm last night:

13 were locally acquired and linked to known cases
one is a returned traveller from overseas
two were locally acquired, without a known source
two were acquired in Victoria

Though hopefully those going that way do not take standard caravans as they are not constructed well enough for the track conditions and tend to get a lot of damage, or even fall apart to the stage that they cannot be towed.

Change to NSW policy for Vic returnees:

NSW residents returning from Victoria will have their hotel quarantine fee waived for the next month to ease the financial burden on returnees.

The charge will be waived retrospectively and apply to NSW residents already in hotel quarantine after travelling from Victoria.

From today's detailed release

The trip north to Qld, usually via NSW coast is incredibly popular in SA. One day we will hire a Brit Van and do it. Caravans arent our thang. Maybe we can tow a small car behind the van 😂

We will be hiring a car at Cairns airport next week. Better not get one with Vic/NSW plates.

I'm hearing a number of reports of people getting to the Cairns airport and there not being any cars. Good luck

Some nuggets in today’s NSW Health daily update

A second health care worker at Hornsby Hospital has been diagnosed with COVID-19 but did not work while infectious.

...

A third confirmed COVID-19 case has been identified at Our Lady of Mercy College. Because this new case is not directly linked to the previous two cases, the source of the infection is unknown

Due to the concern about the virus spreading within the school, NSW Health and the school agreed to close the high school for 14 days to allow for contact tracing and to reduce the risk of the virus spreading at the school.

....

Parramatta Public School will not be open for on-site learning today after a student tested positive to COVID-19.

...

It was confirmed yesterday that two people who were infectious with COVID-19 attended the Wildginger restaurant in Huskisson on Saturday, 8 August 2020 from 7.45pm to 10.30pm. Patrons and staff who were at the venue during this time must self-isolate for 14 days and get tested for COVID-19.

Anyone who attended the following venues during the dates and times below are advised to isolate, monitor and test for COVID-19 should any symptoms present, however mild:
  • Rhodes Ikea on 8 August, between 1:20pm -2:20pm
  • Parramatta Westfield on 5 August between 4pm-5:30pm and 8 August between 12pm – 1pm
  • Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club from 5pm on 7 August to 1:30am on 8 August

Gladys was quizzed on why wasn't NSW following NZ's approach as well which was interesting...

Finally a resolution. 100 Canberrans trapped at the border with last minute permit changes on Friday, will now be allowed to drive back to Canberra between Thursday and Sunday, with some restrictions. I.e. only a direct route and no stopping for petrol and only drive between designated hours. One rest stop allowed. It’s only a 4 hour drive, so not exactly an issue. They have to isolate on return, but those are our rules anyway.

I did say that they would end up being able to drive....

Apparently people in Wodonga have been really kind and discounted motel rates were given among other things.

Good....they do have to take account of I believe micro sleep driving policy of 2 hours rest breaks.

I could only access a news clip and the only hint of timing was the newsreader saying, "1 month in" to hotel quarantine. But, other than this newsreader, where is the dated stamped info, I haven't been able to find any on when the videos and statement was made. I am aware that media sometimes makes mistakes, especially when a certain political stance is desired.

Based on this sketchy background info and lack of evidence, from my reading, seemingly those people were mainly referring to the project of getting supplies up and running etc in the very early days. Full disclosure of when the people's statements / videos were made should be released by those releasing the video.

I cannot imagine that people thought they were actually celebrating the 'success' of a totally failed project, that would be reprehensible. Evidence would be nice of when it was made is needed.

No they certainly weren’t celebrating the failed project. It was a case of premature celebration when the battle had just begun.
