Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

When border rules change all exisiting passes are cancelled at the point in time the new rules come in, and people need to apply again under new criteria. This is why they always give a few days notice, so residents likely to be impacted can return under old permit rules.

So someone given a permit before the changes which well publicised came into effect needed to monitor the border rules given the situation is fluid (and if away from home you cant afford not to) and reapply.

This isnt unique to NSW. Qld works the same, all NSW residents in Qld border towns had to reapply for new passes to enter Qld when their rules changed last Saturday. The new permit only going live at 1 am. Qld residents from outside border bubble trying to drive home after 1 am, had to leave their cars and fly home.

To be unfair they would have had to apply for their permit after 12.01am last Friday, have had it approved and then revoked since then. Is this what happened ?

Any assumption that a pass issued under the soft border closure would still apply under the hard border closure is ignorance.

I wonder if the recent outbreak in NZ will impact the NSW response to their community transmission? Do we think NSW will follow suit and try and slam down on their bubbling community transmission spread now?

Entirely agree. It is a ridiculous situation. So Tim Wilson who also had his authority to cross the border cancelled but immediately reinstated could drive from Melbourne through New South Wales into Canberra. But people at Wodonga 3 1/2 hours away from their destination apparently can’t be trusted. This is not a pissing competition this is a ridiculous state of affairs.
Given his history of largess and preferential treatment, Tim Wilson is becoming an embarrassment for the Libs.

A Sydney shopping centre is asking its customers to be on alert for symptoms after a person who visited the food court last Friday tested positive for coronavirus.

The person visited Castle Towers Shopping Centre on August 7, between 3.30pm and 5pm, NSW Health confirmed.
In a statement, the centre’s general manager Eddie Paynter said the shopping centre had been deep cleaned and NSW Health had given them the green light to stay open.
“The safety and wellbeing of our customers, retailers, staff, contractors and suppliers at Castle Towers is always our overriding priority and we take this notification extremely seriously,” Mr Paynter said.

South Coast cases linked to Tangara school cluster

NSW Health has confirmed the two new cases detected on the state's south coast are linked to a rapidly growing cluster in Sydney's northwest.
Wildginger, a restaurant in the Jervis Bay town of Huskisson, has closed for two weeks after two Sydneysiders visited the venue over the weekend.
Illawarra Shoalhaven Public Health director Curtis Gregory confirmed the two Sydneysiders had now been linked to the Tangara School for Girls in Sydney's northwest.
There are now 17 cases, including 11 students, linked to the school.
"These two people are from outside the Local Health District and are linked with the Tangara School for Girls cluster. Both cases have been counted in the public health alert issued by NSW Health on August 11," Mr Gregory said.
"Patrons and staff who were at the venue at the same time as the two cases have been instructed to self-isolate for 14 days and to get tested for COVID-19 if directed or if they develop symptoms."

As you wrote, “ Steel yourself before watching this video ...”

There was actually almost nothing in that that you posted. So, it was a bit of a non steel yourself moment. Seeing as not possible to hear or see what’s going on in the background I don’t know to assume it is anything specific. I prefer actual evidence.

As I wrote, the original video is exclusive to Herald Sun (so far), so I posted a report about it from the Westnews. Its pretty obvious whats going on in the video from the background grabs. Basically its the folk from Dept Jobs , National Gallery, Global Victoria etc patting themselves on the back for doing such a great job with the hotel quarantine task (early on, of course). Here's another report of it (from 25 secs) https://www.facebook.com/9NewsAdelaide/videos/hotel-quarantine-spotlight/1108693979528702/

And re the trapped Canberrans, as far as I know, Andrew Barr offered to provide a police escort at no cost to NSW to make sure that there was no "stopping off along the way" on the 3 hr trip from Wodonga to Canberra, and that seemed a very reasonable proposal to me. Someone said "jurisdictional issues", but I'm pretty sure that is a bureaucratic issue that could be resolved quite quickly if they wanted to, given how quickly all the states have moved on other limitations of our rights.
As ACT Police are a branch of the Federal Police, could they not claim jurisdiction over the Wodonga-Yass stretch of the Hume Highway and the Barton Highway while the stranded Canberrans get home?

Has someone hacked @RooFlyer account - he would never post a bookface link

Officially, “ Under the Policing Arrangement, funds to deliver policing services to the ACT are provided by the ACT Government to the AFP.”

Our CM has said he doesn’t want to have an argument with NSW, at least not in public.

they didn’t give any notice. NSW made a snap decision with immediate effect leaving people already enroute with valid permits stranded

Well, I can only grovel an apology for disappointing you. But do you think the news report over the top of the stills is making it up? You really couldn't figure out what was going on in the video being reported on? OK, here's the 'actual evidence' - original leaked video at the Herald Sun ... but you'll have to put down a few bucks to Rupert to see it 😆. The Guardian and/or the ABC will probably have it tomorrow, and maybe Twitter too, so that would be real evidence. Then we can all enjoy seeing the Victorian bureaucracy congratulating itself on a job well done.

I thought you said NSW should not be allowed to use Canberra hospital.

I guess your frustration was fogging your ‘solution’/‘rebuttal’ :)
I have finally realised what you were on about. The problem is you didn’t realise how draconian my dictatorship would be. No transfers from Queanbeyan, Cooma, Goulburn et al would be allowed. Air ambulance to Sydney only. I reckon it would take all of 3 hours for Gladys to arrive at a solution.

I have two thoughts on her tactics.

1). Gladys is in a funk because internal predictions show cases are spiraling out of control

2). She wants to show her voters that she is just as hardline as other premiers at protecting NSW. So the stranding of ACT people is generating good press for her, as everyone hates ACT anyway.

Curious if anyone has been tracking Vic Police fines since Stage 4 curfew introduced.

My feeling is they are about the same numbers.

:)A better solution is to not let Federal politicians / staffers travelling from Victoria enter by road until ACT residents are allowed through.....create a camp at the border for the Fed pollies.

Oh yes - I like that one. Much more humane for poor NSW residents and we all hate pollies.

Raising an interesting question, presumably the air ambulance helicopter flies into CBR Hospital with evacuations from NSW, the staff and patients without quarantine.

If no notice was given, how was i able to make a post about people needing to fly into SYD as the only way to enter NSW (unless a border resident or fresight) days before the hard border came into being? The answer is because it was specifically mentioned when the changes were announced.

“ Greg Robinson - one of the people caught by the border closure - said the announcement made no reference to people with NSW transit permits.

Mr Robinson said he was moving to Canberra with his partner who was due to start as a critical healthcare worker in a Canberra hospital, which is why they were able to get permits to enter the ACT.

He said the couple had a fully-loaded car so they couldn't fly.

Their permits were approved almost instantaneously when they applied on Wednesday - the same day the NSW announcement took place.

"If the above announcement applied to transit permits too, why was my transit permit approved the same day?" Mr Robinson asked.

He also questions why NSW did not advise him until 10.19am on Friday that they needed to transit through Sydney Airport, if the department had his details since Wednesday.

"Every day we're delayed here delays the start of our quarantine in Canberra, which in turn delays her start at the hospital," Mr Robinson said“.

you'd there would be some way that there could be inter-state cooperation in a pandemic, wouldn't you.
