Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Pretty sure both Marshall and Spurrier have said that they had a team go over the footage from CCTV of the hotel once the genomic results came back. The results were able to pinpoint a male traveller from the UK as the original carrier and from there they reviewed footage to establish where the breach occurred
Thanks. Haven't read that before. So cleaner and security got it from the same door knob?

... I see that caption is that people have sympathy for the business owners but they must have been involved with the lie.
So. "There is no penalty associated with telling lies,'' Mr Stevens said. From AFR, but paywalled.

Edit: Pants on fire. 😡

Shame contact tracing is not under the auspices of SA Police - then at least could be charged with providing false information.

There are some who may take out their anger against that Pizza place for what has happened through deceit. I guess that’s why the Police are watching over it.

I’m thinking possibly they may have been part of the lie. If SA Health were asking the appropriate people there.

The SA tourists ordered into quarantine are going to have to stay there and serve out their sentence.

Take-out. If you come to Tasmania, and an outbreak occurs in your home state after you left, be prepared to spent 2 weeks in a hotel room.
In direct contrast to the NT who are not only opening the borders to us but allowing those in quarantine to undertake a Covid test and if negative they are free to continue their holiday

No. I am more look at the data type of guy and then test it for reasonableness against what the authorities are doing/saying.

I just find it unbelievable that they are trying to justify the hugely strict lockdown on just one person lying.

What about the other contact tracing. What about the actual cases found. What about comparing the case rate to other outbreaks?

I think you eluded to it in another post. I thought the CHO said 80% or so of family positive when would have expected 30-40%? Don’t quote me on that last % but lower.

I also think the really mild symptoms made them worry as people more likely to ignore that. Seems some people had mild symptoms and weren’t getting tested when discovered first case. 4 family members, and possibly the student for Roma something school.

Some of the questions the journalists were asking makes me wonder where they got their degrees

There’s a guy with a slightly higher pitched voice that seems to asks questions with an angle...beyond annoying!!

I think Qld are waiting for 28 days without local transmission and wait til monthly meeting ,so the welcome mat will not Out for traveler from SA before Christmas

I’ve always been confused about QLD and whether it was locally acquired cases with no link within 48hrs or if you were allowed locally acquired cases with Links. Assuming SA get everyone into quarantine, if those contacts test positive they’re of almost no risk to the community.

Why QLD have to wait for end of month border decisions is equally annoying.

Isnt such transmission incredibly rare and maybe has never been reported before? Maybe that may have raised a flag of doubt before taking such drastic action? And now, I am rethinking how the virus escaped the medi hotel in the first place. A door knob or something else? Which door knob unless it was inside a room. In which case, it could have been any surface. Why specify a door knob. And we know both a cleaner and security guy became positive. Surely they didn't touch the same door knob? And the people in quarantine weren't allowed out so they wouldn't have touched anything outside the room.

NZ traced infection back to a bin and a separate event to a lift button. Rare yes but not rare enough to discredit the possibility and take a gamble on public health. Best gamble in the right direction.

I am just going to say, the NT have absolutely rocked decision making for borders!! Love them to pieces

I’m surprised that they can’t find a rule for that person who lied about where he caught COVID-19.
Disrupting the police, I’m sure something that they will find a rule, keep looking.

There is now an enquiry and given the Police Commissioner was directly caught up in the lie, well, watch this space. 12 detectives from various major crime areas and an Assistant Police Commissioner in charge. Their brief? Find something. It does however take away from the fundamental issue of the breach from quarantine hotels which is unfortunate. Liar is now a scapegoat.

I find the "quick to condemn, slow to forgive" attitudes particularly galling. Tassie slammed shut on SA but unlike SA itself, it's going to take a while for them to think about it.
I had work booked in SA next week. I was prepared to take the COVID risk. It's no gain to me either way. Stuff needs my signature whether it's next week or next year but I don't like to mess clients about. SA shutdown proves to be falsely based; frustrating all round but quick condemnation should be matched by quick reset. To date, it's a small cluster with all sources accounted for. Why not quick return to normal business and what about the tourists in quarantine...?!

It look like Tas adopted WA and Qld trigger points. Any local case.

I'd have to look back but I'm sure that wasn't the professed viewpoint?
I hate to agree with a politician but the NSW Premier stated the situation quite well. All sorts of weird outbreaks, false alarms etc are going to happen. A sense of perspective is required.

He didn't lie to the police - he lied to the Health Department - very different

States everywhere will be trying to enact laws now about 'lying to a government official'. Beware of unintended consequences.
