Anyway. Zero cases in SA. 8 days. Fallout from the shopper is pretty much over. Just the Uni cohort of 200 in iso and that will end next weekend. 🤞
Well done SA, hopefully I can reschedule my visit which got cancelled in November and that WA and other states lower the restrictions for Christmas.

Also a huge wake up call to the SA government for the next time there's an outbreak.

Details emerging - 53 year old woman and a 15 year old boy. Told the police they were booked on a domestic flight and police let them go! Unclear whether they told police they had an exemption or police assumed.

on arrival in Melbourne it was discovered they had no exemption, so put into quarantine.

no doubt more explanations will happen, but currently looks very sloppy - surely the police should have checked the exemption?

edit they were first screened by NSW health and directed to board a quarantine bus, but subsequently talked the police into letting them go...

Possibly a breakdown in communication? The police gained the impression that the people were domestic travellers and shouldn't have been in the quarantine bus holding area.
I can't see it being intentional. Surely anyone would realise that once their details had been taken on arrival, there'd be cross checks to the hotel system? Short of going into hiding, what was to be gained?

They had been told by NSW Health on arrival they had to go into quarantine and directed to the quarantine bus queue. Hard not to see it as intentional....

Agree with this. But surely NSW Police should have erred on the side of caution and checked before letting them wander off?

Also, how did they get to SYD Domestic T2, and how long were they there, is there any possibility of exposure to people in the terminal? there's been focus on the flight and MEL T3, but not Sydney.

And furthermore you are advised you need to quarantine on arrival before the flight so by trying to get the hire car they knew they were doing the wrong thing. But hey without anyone willing to legislate criminal charges for these types of things why not give it a go. I wonder whether the Virgin tickets were refundable in case their plans didn't work.

Then why were they in the secure international area if domestic only? It is very much intentional. And sloppy work by officials.

I'm always slow to attribute malice to actions that could also be a genuine mistake.
However you look at it though, the security arrangements were obviously flawed. Absconding shouldn't have been possible, intentional or not.

So thanks to this “policing” we have 170+ pax in isolation plus a VA crew and a VA aircraft withdrawn from service to be deep cleaned.

When will the NSW Police pick up the cost for this?

Massive thanks to the very vigilant Victorian car hire employee for being attentive and doing the right thing reporting these people (regardless of whether they were intentionally dodging quarantine or not)

Massive thanks to the very vigilant Victorian car hire employee

The Age is reporting:

The pair landed at Melbourne Airport about 1.45pm on Saturday and it was a security guard, not a car hire employee as earlier reported, who first raised the alarm. The guard was stationed outside Terminal 3, redirecting passengers arriving into domestic terminals around construction work to the Skybus, and noticed the pair looked lost.

The Victorian government said the guard approached the two travellers and asked them if they needed help and they told the guard they had just arrived from Germany.
