Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

According to Paul Kelly they still think it came from a passenger arriving on the 1st from the USA. They still need to work out how it got from them to a person attending a gym on the 6th December.
Have they stated anywhere that the US traveller was specifically in Hotel Quarantine?
I can find several newspaper reports that state they were but watching the press conferences the CHO stated they arrived early December and were in Quarantine and didn’t visit Avalon.

EDIT: Just answered my own question. Confirmed that this traveller was in hotel quarantine and moved to Medi-Hotel.
NSW CMO replied to question from Journalist.

WA just closed border to NSW

Not surprising. And doesn’t make a huge difference given he’d already forced people into quarantine.

Interesting statement from McGowen; “the virus is circulating everywhere in Sydney”. Hope he passed that info on to NSW Health 🙄. Amazing the lengths these premiers will go to in order to push their agenda.

QLD will be disappointed WA and TAS beat them to the punch. Expect an announcement imminently from us I suspect...

Feel awful for Sydney and NSW. Marooned for Christmas is just rotten rotten luck :(

We personally brought all of our families travel forward and bailed people out of NSW (paid a price that’s for sure!) into the right states just in time thankfully but I know many have not been able to :(

He has the example of Queensland where that Premier found keeping borders closed was a great way to cement a win in the recent election.

Surprise, McGowan in WA has an election in March 2021 so he's repeating the recipe.

Shame about how Christmas will be wrecked for thousands for no good reason! Mr McGowan is a grinch.

And what about QFd, JQd, VAd and other transport operators whose staff will either have fewer hours or in some cases perhaps no work? Same applies to hospitality industry staff as intrastate tourism in WA cannot replace the lost $ from interstate tourists such as New South Welshmen.

This decision must cost each airline (QF group especially, since it's the largest) a few lazy million dollars when all the costs are taken into account: more idle aircraft, less revenue, more refunds...

It seems the next logical step... but I’m holding out hope that now the election is over, and Queensland have pushed very hard on a government backed tourism promo, they may hold out for a bit and keel the northern beaches as the hot spot. Thus far, it does appear to be contained.

It’s also trapping a lot of WA people coming east.

Can't they still leave? But I guess your point is that some flights will be cancelled, so lower seating capacity, and some who've booked won't be able to be easily reaccommodated?

I've noted tonight in the various flight cancellation/delay threads the increasing numbers of flights being cancelled, though largely QFd/JQd on the SYD - MEL - SYD route.

We had a few major scares with Bain/VA2 as we stupidly tried to use up VA1 credit but they have been cancelling a lot of flights including one to Tasmania today and they only fly a couple of times a week now from MEL... Retrospectively it was a stupid decision when they are struggling to fly on the skinny routes, we had to book full fare last minute on Jetstar - as Qantas were sold out....

The WA-NSW flights will be cancelled en masse I’m afraid... what a disaster....

But WA do realises that NSW people could easily fly through Qld, Sa for example and just say they hadn’t been to NSW if they really wanted to...(not endorsing just saying!)

Well, given that NSW has been held like a holy chalice by the Feds as the pinnacle of expertise in how to deal with CV19, they aren’t doing very well compared with other states.

Other states are just protecting themselves from the incompetence of NSW.

It is now time for Gladys to say to all other states that NSW won't be taking anymore overseas return travellers, and let those states that shut off NSW to take more themselves.

No, it’s time there was a federal national standard for incoming pxs policed by the federal immigration authority, whatever that’s called these days. 250 million to buy Border Force new guns to ”protect” against terrorism at airports. The CV is much more a issue for us.

It was announced unilaterally by the Vic Government so the NSW government can do the same. Until we have quarantine airtight no arrivals. This fiasco has broken Christmas for me and many other families.

I still suspect someone on the northern beaches had an exemption from quarantine. If that’s the case there will be blood in Macquarie St.

We were there a week and a half ago.

Hmmmm….and how many times did you .. er…..anyway… when was your last test ??

I was wondering the same.......

Doesn't it come from NSW Health? The list of 'places of concern' is extensive including Wynyard, Redfern and many other places: COVID-19 latest news and cases updates

A handful of places outside of the northern beaches that somebody visited does not equate to “circulating all across Sydney”. Thus far, it’s contained to the northern beaches.

NSW has proven time and time again that they have world leading tracing systems in place which are currently doing their job. Haven’t seen the slightest bit of incompetence here, simply a state that has remained open all year doing what we need them to do.

Closing borders and hiding under a blanket is not doing a good job
