NSW 9 new cases, 8 linked to cluster (6 household contacts, 2 close contacts), one other may be a false positive

Almost 40k tests

Small modifications/relaxations for Northern Beaches restrictions, but now have to stay in zone (2 zone Northern Beaches)

NSW - 4 unlinked cases noted
- Belrose who seemed to have acquired covid before the apparent seeding of Avalon cluster
- Bondi person
- person from outside Northern Beaches who works at Manly
- CBD person but may have come near to Paragon Hotel positives (my reading passing on the street???)

Edit: based on other NSW Health media releases, of cases in the past 4 weeks, 10 have an unknown source, including 8 under ongoing investigation

South China Morning Post reporting that Hong Kong is now quarantining overseas visitors for 21 days! Apparently it was implemented with about 1 hours notice! Couldn't happen in Australia surely? Well apart from WA, TAS, QLD, .....

NSW - almost 24k tests, 7 new local case, all linked to Northern Beaches, 6 linked to cluster (5 already in isolation), 1 under investigation (a firefighter who attended Belrose hotel).

(4 in international quarantine).

Belrose Hotel worker case unlinked 23/12 test result, 10/12 transient symptom (a few hours unwell), no down stream infections. 11/12 firefighter attended, but Belrose hotel worker case did not attend at the same time. Now NSW Health looking for 11/12 onwards - test and free to go (ie no isolation to wait for result)

It sounds like if they could find the source of the Belrose infections it might help them to identify the source of the Avalon cluster, or at least a step closer.

SA Health announced today that 2 returned travellers are in Royal Adelaide Hospital with covid, first hospitalisations in SA for ages. One is aged in their 30s. The other has the UK covid variant strain.

On the topic of younger people with ill effects from covid, a woman I work with has a 30 year old son who lives in NYC. Previously fit and healthy with no medical conditions. Caught covid a few months ago, mostly recovered but has developed asthma 😯

This border concept just gets weirder and weirder. The New Daily today reported on a man in Melbourne who said he should not have been put into hotel quarantine. The ND said

'The 24-year-old says he was living in New South Wales for nine months, but remained a Victorian resident.'

As if COVID actually cares where you think you may be technically resident.
