Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Seems that international airlines are getting angry at the Victorian government. Victorians are requiring tests throughout any crew layovers and if tested positive will not let the crewmember depart until clear.

The rest of the crew on the same inbound can only operate without passengers on the outbound.

Seems quite draconian for us enforcing these rules on foreign carriers who may end up with airframes stranded in Australia until they can get a clean crew into position. While I understand the health argument I can also see the airline perspective.

2 cases in SA
One is a returned OS traveller in HQ and the other is a man who has traveled from NSW to the Yorke Peninsula and possibly an old infection

Interesting that the guy on the York peninsula was on the same DRW to SYD flight as the QF flight attendant that has tested positive, so may not be an old infection.

Surprise, surprise.

NT revokes hotspot declaration on Greater Sydney. Only Northern Beaches remains a hotspot.

I did remark a few months ago that I thought NT was best or 2nd best in border management. But didn’t think they would move before end 2020

My guess is that by NYE that most jurisdictions will be similar, except for WA.

Apparently he wasnt seated near that person, and his positive was only a weak one, so maybe just viral shedding from an old infection. They think he developed Covid when he was in Victoria at the height of their wave and never had symptoms and was never tested. Thats the theory so far.

Why does it seem that assumptions are often thrown out because of distanced seating on an aircraft.

Did they use the same loo? It's realistic cross infection could occur there.

This is the same for operations into China. I bet they comply without any issues there.

Crew shall receive nucleic acid testing at the first port of entry if they need to enter the country to rest or continue to operate domestic routes.
  • The test results will be confirmed by the local government in accordance with the requirements of epidemic prevention management.
  • Only if the test result is negative, can crew continue the operation.
  • If the test result is positive, crew are required to remain in China for medical treatment.
  • Crew will only return to Australia after medical treatment and a confirmed test resultis negative.

There’s more to their reasoning than this. It wasn’t a stand alone piece of evidence.

Queensland records more wastewater positives

Virus found in Queensland wastewater

Coronavirus fragments have been found in routine wastewater testing at three different locations across Queensland.

The state’s Chief Health Officer said the discovery is particularly concerning considering the outbreak in Sydney’s northern beaches. The results were collected on December 21 and 22, in the Wynnum, Bargara and Bundaberg areas.

People from Wynnum, Bargara and Bundaberg have been urged to get tested for COVID-19 immediately if they have symptoms, even if those symptoms are mild.

Experts still very worried about spreading events in Sydney today and for New Years.... but we won’t know how it fans the flames of the virus spread until Jan....

With the Sydney coronavirus outbreak still spreading, experts fear Christmas could lead to 'worst-case scenario' for New Year's Eve

With Sydney on a knife-edge as the Avalon cluster continues to grow, experts are concerned that celebrations over the next week, particularly New Year's Eve, could become coronavirus superspreading events.

In a worst-case scenario, those exposed to undetected coronavirus on Christmas Day in their small household gatherings could unknowingly take it to New Year’s Eve celebrations, when they would be at their peak infectiousness.

While Christmas might bring together two or three households, New Year’s celebrations bring together people from further afield, which could lead to potential super-spreader events in the city.

Throw in the Boxing Day sales, where large crowds mingle indoors, and it's a "potential ticking time bomb", says University of NSW epidemiologist Professor Raina MacIntyre who heads the Biosecurity Program at the Kirby Institute.

So far the disaster predictions of experts throughout this outbreak have not been borne out by facts.

The hyperbole of “knife edge” is starting to be a bit tiresome and the media are now definitely sensationalising what is going on.

Nice looking yatch. And only $780,000 per weekly charter for those interested.
And I'd expect the Qld government could find some useful employment for the boat, until the crew decide to be helpful.....

I don't think there is an airline perspective here. The only people who could stop a flight departing are the flight crew. If they have tested positive, they are not fit to operate. And who would want to share a coughpit with them anyway.

Merry Christmas 🎁🎄🍒🍷

In relevant news, Victoria having issues with international flight crew. Particularly what happens when a positive case arises. Apparently a plane has diverted to Sydney?!?!
