Amazing coincidence, 2 separate diners at same restaurant.

Is this black rock joint that good?

Go Vic health staff & tracers, let's knock this mini cluster on the head, isolate ppl isolate!

In addition to the exposure sites below there are close contacts who are isolating at holiday properties in Leongatha (east of Melbourne) and Barwons Heads (west of Melbourne)

Well not coincidence as they believe that the returned traveller from NSW infected people at the two tables creating transmission branches in this outbreak.

NSW.
10 local + 7 hotel quarantine
- 5 close contacts of Northern Beaches Cluster
- 3 close contacts of the Inner West cluster (the family who had 6 cases yesterday)
- 1 close contact of the transport driver from a few days ago
- 1 western suburbs yet to be linked

And 28,000 tests

Inner West/ Croydon cluster is the greater concern as some were out and about where possible transmitters. Less concerned about Northern Beaches at present

Much better than I feared.

SA to introduce hard border with NSW

Meanwhile, South Australia will be introducing a hard border with NSW as of 12:01am tonight.

Premier Steven Marshall says returning residents, people re-locating permanently to South Australia and people considered “essential travelers” will be exempt from the hard border.

There will be a 100km ‘buffer zone’ for people living in border communities.

People transiting to South Australia via New South Wales will also have an exemption, provided they don’t stop in NSW on the way.

Just as well distances travelled in Australia is small so you can easily travel through a state and not have to stop .......

Reminds me of people doing similar in Europe, travelling from Germany for example to the UK via Belgium/France 'without stopping'. Just dangerous.

I see we've slowly but surely moved away from treating everyone equally as per the Constitution, toward providing special treatment to a subset of the Australian population based on residence.

Important to note.

While yes, I do fear that this means that all NSW residents will be prevented from interstate travel......which is bad news for me as well as obviously everyone in NSW.

I am very much hoping that the current swift measures in Vic keep the Vic Borders open. If Vic and NSW both get locked up it will not be good for me at all.

However defined. Note SA is allowing in returning residents, people re-locating permanently to South Australia. So if I turn up at the border and am not a resident (which probably means my DL is from another state), can I just say I am relocating permanently to SA?

Vic are going to lock all of NSW out it’s clear as day, they are telling their residents to return immediately...

Public will support in VIC I’m sure.

Sigh here we go again, NSW will be marooned

Permanently for two weeks perhaps.

There is no way states should be able to discriminate based on this sort of criteria. I'm sorry but we're either a country, or we're not.

There is a lot of state based barracking going on social media etc in regards to case numbers, borders, etc and I find it very disturbing.

Until 2020 no-one ever thought of the shortcomings of Federation, COVID really nails its shortcomings. I realise health concerns, but Bugger you Jack mentality is rampant.

The states have certainly been emboldened by the outcome of the Palmer case against WA. Unfortunately, I can't see anyone else having a crack, perhaps with a different argument.

People are spooked because for some reason Gladys can’t or won’t make masks compulsory.
Surely this is the first thing that should have been implemented in NSW

As I understand it's seen as a last resort action.

You can't keep up masks for a long time.
It also results in people relying on masks and not doing other behaviour (like distancing, and hand hygiene).

And for the average person who wears the same mask for days on end, touching it multiple times, taking it on and off, it's arguably not as effective.

And then you get the issue of policing it.
Hard enough getting some people to obey limited seating restrictions and checking in.

Which is exactly what the majority of AFFers have been demanding :( They wanted an end to indiscriminate border closures, and restrictions based only on 'hot spots'.

As we have seen unfortunately, this notion of 'hot spots' doesn't really work. Last week the WA premier announced restriction based on the virus was being found 'throughout Sydney'. He was mocked by some on AFF. Turns out he was right :(

The venerable Mr McGowan was talking out of his backside last week. But having spent a few days here I kind of understand. It's like walking in to December 2019 and living in an alternate, but parallel universe.

Re: masks. Yes once you get used to them it's normal. After 6 days in WA I still reach for it before I leave the house even though I don't need it. Once you use them for a while you realise they're not so bad. But there is a very heavy inertia involved with mandating them.

I certainly remember the hesitancy and doubt when the word was spreading about mandated wearing in Victoria. It was not popular at all. I can understand not wanting to force their use - you might get used to them but somehow I feel distanced from everyone I converse with when wearing masks. Probably the decades of watching lips move I guess - it's an interesting transition.

Well the good news is no more to the 3 announced yesterday linked to the Sydney cluster.

Dont think this is correct, the news here is reporting 3 more in addition to the 3 annoucned yesterday afternoon.

Vic outbreak is likely a lot larger given the exposure date was before Christmas (21 Dec).

Im supposed to go to Byron on Sunday, wonder if i will be going.
