Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

So Vic wont count this as a local case, but Im sure WA will treat it that way wrt resetting the 28 day clock.

Most likely a false positive according to the VIC press conference. They have put the 2 rings (given the child and all the family is already in Israel) around the close contacts left here anyway for extra safely. Being a young child amongst young children very low risk. Rest of family negative.

Sure. I’m wondering why the child was tested overseas though and maybe there is more detail to be revealed.

Was a rapid test overseas mandated at Tel Aviv airport. They aren't very concerned given the very low transmission risk but have put the normal rings of containment around the people left here anyway 'just in case'.

My niece returned from the Gold Coast via Brisbane airport a week ago.

She received a SMS from Qld Health today instructing her to quarantine at home till 6PM tonight...

Sutton saying it was a rapid test in Israel. Fair chance it’s a FP.
"“Rapid point of care test have variable sensitivity and specificity, it’s my suspicion this is not going to end up being a confirmed positive test. We are following that with Israeli authorities as soon as we can get a determination precise test and we will provide that information, I do suspect it will end up not being a true positive case.”

Is she in Vic? Surely QLD does not have any jurisdiction if she doesn't?

Yes in Vic. Message was a text.

Interesting was sent out though as only part of Brisbane that she has been was her return flight. She flew up on Boxing Day and lived with her sister who is a permanent GC resident..

Standrd practice for all internatuonal arrivals to be tested before being admitted into community.

How long until the website to apply for a permit that renders you liable to a $5,000 fine if it isn't produced, crashes?

Or where your permit is invalidated, you become a Prohibited Person and the Authorised Officers are after you? Victoria invalidates permits whenever they feel like it.

People literally fled countries that implemented this kind of Orwellian control. They just called it an Enabling Law.

From The Age

"If I get public health advice to lock out another part of the country ... I will not hesitate to do that," he said.

"The stakes are very high here. We have built something that is precious and it needs to be safeguarded."

No hesitation would seem to mean no consideration or balancing of the risk.

Poor leadership. He's not the only one, mind you.

Honestly, I am reconsidering the theory that he is both the prosecutor and defense. Not the only state leader that would qualify for this prize, either. McGowan is having the exact same effect on the WA population.

Blame governments and oppositions past for placing no or little defined limits to State of Emergency powers.

Who can remember August? The Chief Health Officer of Victoria (a non-elected, appointed officer of the government of the day) was restricting sittings of parliament.

Genuine question as to what happens to those traveling on flights departing before this system goes live for applying (as of 15:45 it is NOT available via Services Victoria website) but land after 17:59?

When I landed in WA on Christmas Day there were a number of staff available to help those who had not applied for/been granted a G2G pass prior to departure which was good to see.

I'm also a little curious to know the legal avenue that the Victorian government is using to enforce the fine. Given they've so far, I believe, been unable to charge interstate arrivals for hotel quarantine.

It's Victoria, who knows? Based on the article I posted earlier this morning, you could be held at the airport for five hours and then put into quarantine at your own expense.

Agree, but it is the standard in Israel where the child is.

Fact that a rapid and not PCR tets would imply they were planning to enter HQ there.

Ex-Collegaues who live and work in Israel said everyone gets a rapid test, you then request the PCR if you want to iso at home or challenge the rapid test result.

To be honest, don’t know. But there is a possibility of a worse outcome. It does depend how reasonable Vic officials are on the ground.

One reported example of a previous day did not sound promising.

Want are you thinking? Unexpected Quarantinees (is that the right word?) being led away in handcuffs!

One would hope Vic will be more organised with the new permit system, as they were clearly not appropriately resourced to review applications when they reinstated permits on NYE.

What of Israel? So far, the government has not changed its requirements for people arriving in the country, and it does not require production of a negative coronavirus test as a condition of entry. Since last week, all arrivals have been required to be isolated in state-run hotels, but most arrivals have reportedly been directed to self-isolate. Only 2,000-3,000 hotel rooms are available, far fewer than the number of people landing in the country.

In addition, in order to encourage arriving travelers to undergo coronavirus testing after they land, and to shorten their isolation period from fourteen days to ten, since last week they have been allowed to undergo testing gratis at the Check2Fly stands at Ben Gurion Airport. The test is not compulsory, but the response has been high, and thousands of travelers are choosing to undergo testing immediately on landing in Israel.

And at Ben Gurion it states on their website:

Someone may have something more recent that the above article.
