Queensland keeps mandatory masks indoors in Brisbane

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says Greater Brisbane's three-day lockdown will be lifted at 6:00pm, but residents will need to continue to use face masks in public indoor areas until January 22.

WA is up early today and finally someone uses the ELIMINATION word they've all been hiding from.

Sigh..... I could poke so many holes in these quotes but why even bother....

WA should be reopening to both QLD and VIC straight away....

WA Premier Mark McGowan says borders will be reconsidered at the end of Greater Brisbane's restriction period, attacks NSW for not eliminating virus

"With how Queensland is going and I think the Queensland Government has done the right thing. What they did was lock down Brisbane in order to kill the spread of the virus and do extensive testing. So they did the right thing. It would have been no doubt debilitating and difficult but they did the right thing. The Queensland approach, the Victorian approach, is the right approach. We need to eliminate the virus from Australia.

"It would be, I think, advisable if New South Wales eliminated the virus from Sydney and that would, of course, mean that we could rest a lot easier across Australia.

"Queensland doesn't know if they have got community spread. They don't know. So — and this is the British strain which is highly contagious, and obviously causing mass deaths across Britain. So before you open a border, you want to be absolutely sure so you don't have to close it down again immediately. So we just want to be absolutely sure before such time as we open the border to Queensland and Victoria."

, so far as I know Brisbane has had zero community transfer from the cleaner which I find hard to believe considering they had the UK strain.

Not really. The vast bulk of people don't pass it on, which is why it dies out (and this person was taking precautions).
And the UK strain is only 50-70% more infective, not 5x or 10x

On Victoria, it's a complete joke allowing 1000 overseas arrivals from many high risk countries, whilst they block their own residents who crossed into regional NSW from returning.

That’s a strange one. Not sure if the child is now overseas that it has anything to do with childcare though. Wonder where they are?
They have closed the childcare for deep cleaning. I’m guessing they are worried other kids may have been infected

FUnny thing - yesterday he was reported as saying that states should stop nitpicking each other.

NT has decalred Greater Brisbane is no longer a hotpost and will release those that have been there form HQ.

NT goes first in reopening borders to covid ravaged QLD....

NT reopens borders, revokes Brisbane hotspot declaration

The Northern Territory Government has revoked its hotspot declaration for Greater Brisbane.

The announcement comes after the Queensland Government announced its lockdown of the city would end this evening.

Brisbane was declared a hotspot on Friday after a quarantine hotel worker tested positive for the more contagious UK strain of coronavirus.

People arriving from the Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, and Redland local council areas will no longer have to undergo mandatory quarantine upon arrival in the NT.

Took a double take re the childcare exposure thinking it said Armidale (Regional NSw) but its Armadale (Melbourne).

Given child was there 4 days ago, highly likley they were infectious at the time - time to start contract tracing the parents and siblings.

Yes of course they would need to. Usually child care won’t accept a child with symptoms unless they’ve had a recent (current for symptoms) test.

SMH reports: Video footage has emerged of a man abusing a McDonald’s worker in the north-west Sydney suburb of Kellyville on Saturday night after he was reportedly asked to provide his details for contact tracing.

Hope they lay multiple charges - not wearing a mask (supposed to wear until food is served), abusing staff and property damage. CCTV footage is everywhere, im sure he wil be named and shamed really soon.

Presumably if NSW announced that they would close Sydney airport to international arrivals (the source of nearly all cases in NSW) McGowan would applaud that as a positive step even though at a stroke it would decimate most overseas Australian's (including WA residents) chances of returning anytime soon?

Now WA's elimination goal is finally public, then yes I think that would be their preference

I'm puzzled by this one. The Age reports the child has tested positive after travelling overseas. Did the child acquire the virus overseas, or at the childcare centre? If overseas, the child should have been in hotel quarantine?

The way I read it was that the child (and family) are now overseas and the case has been picked up there.

From SMH:

A child who attended a childcare centre in Melbourne’s south-east on Thursday has now tested positive to COVID-19 after travelling overseas.

It is not yet clear which country the child and their family have
now travelled to.
