Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Personally I don't get the need to blame people because of where they live.

From memory all of the recent travellers in Regional NSW whether they be from NSW (ie Orange and NSW Camper) or Victoria at the time of their visit did not know they they were infectious or should not have been travelling. That includes the two Victorians who were advised that they were a close contact when they were in NSW and were also actually lining up to get tested.

Indeed the reports are from memory that all once they were aware that they were a transmission risk that all did the right thing.
I tried to phrase it factually as to where they travelled from. I made sure not to say Victorians.

Edit: there are exposure sites in Melbourne. Why isn’t Melbourne declared orange?

RooFlyer it is not only Tasmania that doesn't test asymptomatic patients.
Here is the link to NSW Health advice.
Symptoms and testing | NSW Government

And Victoria.
Department of Health and Human Services Victoria | Taking the test (dhhs.vic.gov.au)

Believe me patients are routinely tested for Covid on admission to hospitals or EDs in Tasmania if they have any remotely Covid symptoms. My classic last week was a young man tested for Covid even though there was already an obvious cause of his breathlessness-a spontaneous pneumothorax.

This policy was agreed upon by the AHPPC.One of the reasons is that if there is a very low risk of Covid in the community there is a higher chance that any positive test is a false positive. That would then really disrupt the local community as it did in Emerald,QLD.

If an asymptomatic patient really wants to get tested they can and then it is through their GP and will not be free - consult and test.

However Tasmania is doing very well in forward planning for an outbreak.just this morning got an email re PPE supplies.Everything is at levels for 6 months need or more.

in NSW you dont need a referral for a test, my sister has had multiple tests and has never had to prove symptoms, they just test you. The reocmmendations may be for people with symptoms (however mild) or if you have been to an exposure site, but they do not stop you from being tested if you dont meet the criteria.

As we know, the governments still make their decisions on a completely arbitrary basis depending on the lotto numbers the previous night, and it makes absolutely no difference to confidence to the community or business.

Indeed a national system such as this also would not solve anything, as the states are doing whatever they want.

They should have a meeting and create a National Cabinet*$%^#@ or something to agree on an aligned approach on ALL these things!

* Excluding WA who don't quite understand all the big words the other states use
$ Excluding QLD who actually thought they were their own country and that Elvis is still alive
% Excluding TAS who barely have a functioning health system
^ Excluding VIC who have been through a traumatic event and now refuse to evaluate risk sensibly anymore
# Excluding SA who have been diagnosed with anxiety, panic attacks and massive overreaction syndrome
@ Excluding ACT who are sick of being bundled in and judged along with NSW and want to have their own voice

Even the Federal Government broke their own 'guide' on hotspots with Brisbane.....

The Orange I referred to is the NSW Regional Town. Not a risk status. The NSW Camper visited other regional locations. ie Broken Hill etc.

Well I did post the NSW Health guidelines.
However for the last couple of months the great majority of folks in NSW have qualified for free testing as they are in an area of concern-ie Greater Sydney plus the listed places in regional NSW visited by a covid positive person.

Well from what was stated. No, not from that one instance. And indeed the concern expressed was that lack of restrictions from Greater Sydney to Regional NSW may allow spread.
So is Victoria hyperventilating/ projecting from what happened in Melbourne/Regional Victoria mid-late 2020?

There has been no transmission event in regional NSW before/around the time the orange zone was declared.

There has been transmission events in Melbourne, but it’s not declared an orange zone for the purposes of protecting Regional Victoria

That concurs with my experience.

There was an instance in Sydney's Western Suburbs where a private GP tried to charge for a Covid-19 test and Brad Hazzard got the Director General of the Health Department to sort it out. NSW has a very clear message that tests are free, plentiful and available.

That has as many caveats as a QF points/status earn table.

The article that indicated some of the reasons why Victoria closed its border to NSW was mentioned yesterday. I also replied to you yesterday with that link in it, but you probably missed my reply.

You will note that the article does not state that Victoria closed its just borders because someone from Victoria was positive.

I don't why it has been stated by some that Victoria closed its border just because someone from Victoria was positive.

I didn’t notice the article and I generally don’t read linked articles from this thread-TMI some times.

So quoting from the SMH article the reason for the border closure was:

“But it was crystal clear. In the absence of widespread coronavirus restrictions in NSW, a border closure was the only option”

So I guess a polite way of saying no masks, no hard lockdown on Sydney - that’s why Vic are having a hard border with the whole of NSW.....and about 10 cases not yet announced that day.
