I understand there are permit exemptions for the 'border bubble' or whatever it was called. I'm just not sure of the headline saying there was no communication. It was on the news last night.

Being on the news does not constitute an official announcement. I've been looking this morning, and I can't find anything from the local Kremlin about removal of the checkpoints. Not from the police either. Perhaps I've missed it, but Dan's announcements are normally easy to find.

The checkpoints are definitely gone though. It's almost as if it's happened in spite of the government. The news announced it, based on some comments from police officers on the checkpoints. The public accept it as gospel...and it becomes the default action. Or perhaps the police unilaterally decided enough was enough.

Who knows, but it's a major event, and politicians are normally all over such things.

I really hope that this is not just a coincidence but has anyone else noticed that the three countries that have subsequently developed more contagious variants are where the Astra Zeneca trials were held & the time frames of the trials overlap (with a suitable delay) the emergence of the new variants?

Perhaps the question is not whether it has a 'head start' on the new mutations but did it cause them?

Just like bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics - did CV mutate as a result of exposure to the AZ/Oxford drug trials?

The very early Novavax trials in South Africa suggest that it is only around 60% effective in reducing the symptoms of the South African strain (for people who haven't had HIV) vs around 90% in the UK overall.

Yes as in QLD. Sanitiser is not good for some bacteria germs. Just use soap and water, plus it’s cheaper.

DHHS received a notification of an indeterminate result last night. Follow up tests are underway and precautionary public health actions are being taken. There will be an update on the case later today.

J+J mentioned a sixfold delta reduction for SA variant. Pfizer, afaik, has made no announcements re SA variant.

I also discovered weak povine iodine nasal swabbing / gargling reduces infection, something that should be used on plane / public transport travel. Bar the potential damage on seat coverings. There were studies on this. OTOH is would interfere with nasal swabbing.(shhhh dont tell anyone). Dr's always say salt water gargling is good and cheap. Like Triffids, could salt be the solution?

If there is an international vaccine Passport rating, I understand I cannot take monkey flu/cold delivered shots sequentially,close together. This way AFF'ers can boost with another mrna(SA) booster should it be needed.

Qualifications: flight pretesting and home quarantine after flying are options, if proper risk management protocols are followed. I assume age based risk adjustments / antibody readings SHOULD be used going forward.

Yes I am at the airport now.

My project in Qld that I must be at is just over a fortnight away. But I decided a few weeks ago to fly up a fortnight early to allow time for quarantine etc just in case.


It is my first time at the airport since the pandemic started. So the lack of people feels strange.

Some countries have higher rates of infection, and the more of the virus you have around, the more chance of a mutation occurring. All we are seeing is evolutionary warfare in action !

Impossible not to speculate. Could be that he is delaying the change to very low risk for QLD and VIC based on the reopening of the NZ border bubble and a desire to "prevent spillover". Some strange logic to justify "keeping WA safe" and getting more news time.
