Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I'm not so sure about the swimming one, surely you wouldn't want to be in a pool regardless of SD as people breathe in/out into the water.....

Can't tell if you are writing in jest without a little smiley, but the water would, of course be chlorinated, which also kills any fecal nasties, stuff from open wounds etc in the water. Exhaled air I think is the least of your worries.

Yes pool water is healthy. Changing and toilet rooms are a separate issue though that need to be managed.

However the bigger problem is that in most public pools in Australia that they are a very big energy consumer (water, heating, filtration, salt chlorination or the various other ways of sterilisation used at large pools in Australia, and then there is the air within the buildings too (HVAC running costs for as air temperature and humidity both need to be controlled. ). In many municipalities their aquatic centres are their biggest consumer of power by far. There is a real science, including data science, to managing pools to keep costs down and achieving the right water quality and when I conduct sessions on this topic it is always one of the more popular ones.

Opening a public pool for 20 people will not be viable at many swimming pools.

Those with outdoor lap pools may just choose to open them, or one of them. Operational costs can be a lot less as these may not be heated, plus avoid the HVAC costs.

If they do open for only 20 people at a time larger centres will be burning cash. The smaller the pool, the more likely that they would be viable to reopen.

No news yet on swimming pools reopening properly in NSW. Outdoor pools can have 10 people with 1 per lane but I don’t know any near me that are open. If nail salons are to be opened from June 1 then keeping indoor pools closed seems nonsensical (at least to me). Surely swimming is less risky than visiting a nail salon?

Disclaimer: daily swimmer pre-COVID, never been inside a nail salon.

The lack of positives (good thing) has slipped so far down the news story in SA it barely makes the news anymore.

In W.A pools have been allowed to re-open with a 20 person limit but the change rooms have to remain closed. Our local council has held off re-opening ours yet and are waiting for the Phase 3 reductions easing of restrictions due in June.

.... not to mention the amounts of urine and quantities of #2, which may be in a solid or liquid state, from time to time, adding to hazards that my be encountered within public pools.

There is a guy who goes for a swim almost every morning at Henley Beach and has been doing so for as long as we've been here which is almost a year.

You can join the Iceburgers down at Brighton Baths who swim every day (when allowed) ;) No heating for them.

Yeah, nah.

My last swim was about 2 weeks ago ( on the surf coast) water is definitely cooling down now. Normally wouldn’t even think about swimming in the sea in southern Victoria in May - but hey it’s odd times, and I don’t think I’ll be back in again (in this part of the world ) until next summer, unless I get off my backside and get a wetsuit.

Ignoring returning overseas travellers no new cases in Victoria again today.

And that is after a pretty massive 33K of tests over the last two days. This is about 3% of all CV19 tests done in Australia since testing commenced.

Putting both of these together is a very good sign.

Two people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Victoria overnight, the state's government has revealed.

Both of the patients are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

That is great news. Hopefully borders relaxed soon too.

Bye QLD!

Just heard Jacinda say that isn’t the case and that she would probably wait until borders are open

That makes more far more sense. Both from a practicality point of view and helping ScoMo out with some extra pressure from outside.
