Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It's not Victoria Police's fault that SA slapped a hap hazard border closure up, with minutes / few hours max notice that resulted in traffic on the VIC side building up and then someone dying because of the dangerous conditions.

The responsibility for this tragedy lies squarely at the feet of the SA government / leader that made this decision without putting proper procedures, communication or notice for the border closure in place, resulting in the congregation of traffic near the border.
I agree. I thought I made it clear that the Vic Police likely wouldn't have had enough notice to prevent the traffic hazard, and at the same time, SA Police could not do anything on the Vic side.

Yes........ many of those flights and the people are now in other states I would guess, that is why people go to an airport right? 😂
Oops, it was meant to say tracing would be happening in other states.

Valentines Day is traditionally one of the busiest times on a restaurants calendar, I’d imagine they would be fully stocked in preparation so a lockdown is going to hurt big time

Through business in Victoria the workers we work with were thinking they simply could not bear another lockdown. One had her apartment block completely shut down for many days. And then of course there was the long standing general lockdown as well.

If this lockdown only goes for five days then perhaps it can be manageable but there will be so many very sad stories as fallout.

"Circuit Breaker"

5 Day Lockdown for all of Victoria from 1159pm!

Allowed out only for essential shopping, caregiving, essential work and exercise @ 2hrs per day.

Stay safe folks.

And so back to the Hotel Quarantine program debate we return.

Dan says the UK variant is hyper infectious
Can someone pls tell me why hyper infectious UK strain is not hyper infectious in WA and QLD.

Only in the states that don’t have the systems and support in place would lockdown in this scenario now, not VIC or NSW which are perfectly capable of dealing with something like this without slamming their own residents into a lockdown.

SA shutting the border over this is simply ludicrous.
So, you were saying?

Side note: the declaration of all of T4 at MEL would have caused enormous disruption to JQ and ZL operations at the airport even without the lockdown. All of the checkin, gate and ramp staff who worked that day would have been locked down.

And hard to replace because they probably have a good number still stood down.

Not just Valentines, today is Lunar New Year, and given today is working day, hundreds of thousands of East Asian Victorians (Chinese, Koreans, South East Asians etc) was planning to go out and meet each other over this weekend, either at restaurants or at homes. All of that is now gone. Lunar New Year is most important festival for many east Asian countries.

They will be affected like millions across Asia. China has curtailed travel, Singapore has restrictions on number of people you can host in a day (and restrictions on 8 in gatherings anyway). Vietnam have lockdowns in some areas.

Yes of course,

Last night I went out with my family for Lunar New Year Eve dinner. The restaurant was packed, tons of people went to order takeaways. I would have expected festivities to continue this weekend.

The worrying sign is that given T4 MEL is impacted, that means the virus is most likely to be exported to other states already .....

That perhaps Victorian tracers are concerned they are still not on track?
I hate the state rivalry stuff.

But, I will be very interested to see how NSW approaches its next HQ breach...should it be a 'variant of concern'.

I'm not really into the cynicism about the UK strain...the way it traversed the UK is pretty alarming

SA did the same, as did WA. Not sure where the rivalry stuff kicks in.
