Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

That’s interesting I’m happy enough and always make a point of checking into bars , restaurants etc but when I run into the local 7/11 or coffee shop for a few minutes it doesn’t even cross my mind!
As I mentioned when it was first introduced we are supposed to scan everywhere! Including a take away coffee counter that it outside, or in multiple places in every mall, including the takeaway sushi bar, or coffee shop - each one has a different QR code, servos, convenience stores - it's everywhere! Spurrier lost a lot of support a couple of months ago when she suggested that the QR system remain in place, permanently, once the pandemic was over! 😱. For our safety. 😉Rebutted by the Police Commissioner a couple of hours later.

Does anyone else feel that states like Qld who go into lockdown at a drop of a hat do so to justify their previous lockdowns and how successful they had been each time when they did.

No.

The QLD CHO came out a few weeks ago and said:

- No more lockdowns
- No more state border restrictions (in about 4-6 weeks time when the statement was made, so in about 2 weeks time now because the most vulnerable will have been vaccinated)

Forced into a highly embarrassing public backflip was definitely not a part of the plan just to justify past actions.

They had no choice because their HQ program was flawed (shipping positives into a central location and not vaccinating staff) plus a lacklustre contact tracing effort that left the virus able to spread.

The details enacted under the SOE. In short, up to $5060 penalty for the business and $1060 per person.

Weird fine amount.
I wonder how it goes if police hide inside a service station to trap people? Does the service station cop a $5k fine every time someone walks in the door? Most service stations have one person behind the till. They have no means of enforcing check in and I must admit that the last time I was in SA, I didn't even think of checking in when I bought fuel.

Funny thing is if they have not changed by now chances are they won't.

Also I have not watched all the news so how many cases did QLD get that where outside of those who had been close contacts and been told to quarantine.

I’m moving to the UK.

Now :). Wouldn’t have wanted to be there a few months ago!

@jakeseven7 not sure if you heardback from NSW Health re NTL non compliance. I emailed tneir facilities people and got the below reply, not sure why they are claiming mxed messaging when the official NSW health media release was clear.

"Good afternoon Lynda,

Thank you for your email. We sincerely appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Since the early stages of the pandemic, our COVID response has always been inline with the directions and advice given by NSW Health, including that of adherence to all Public Health Orders.

The recent amendment we made in relation to the relaxation of mandatory mask requirements was triggered by mixed messaging from NSW Health. This has since been cleared up by the issuing of an additional Public Health Order commencing on Thursday 1 April 2021.

In line with the above PHO, we have recommenced mandatory mask actions. Again, this feedback is very valuable to us, thank you.

Kind regards,

Paul McFarlane
Operations and Compliance Manager"

Police were trawling through Adelaide Qantas Club telling everyone who wasn't, to wear their mask. Even those seated and with a plate of food and glass of drink on their table.

Just hope the criminals are still being caught. And we still have full ID check on arrival as recently as last night.

Well done - I reported them twice to NSW Health, once online and once on a phone call.

On the phone they said no, they must absolutely be wearing masks in the terminal that is a clear breach by Newcastle airport.

They said they would follow it up and let me know the outcome but never heard back from them.

I’m glad they have been pulled into line.

Personally, I think Qantas have handled the mask situation very well in the lounge. They haven't enforced it for those sitting but I've seen several people spoken to who were moving about without their mask correctly fitted. I consider that to be a reasonable compromise. It's not physically possible to eat and drink with a mask on and I suspect that constantly removing and replacing a virus laden mask, for each mouthful, would result in more spread that peaceably eating sans mask.
It would make sense to do similar on the plane. Once seated, remove mask. Most people get a snack or a bottle of water and remove the mask anyway. I doubt a mask would make a significant difference if you were seated next to a super spreader for two hours.

Sure. But this was SA Police Force enforcing masks for everyone including those obviously eating. And sitting down.

Understand. It's disappointing when Qantas were handling the situation in a sensible manner. Did anyone push back? On days I'm flying out, I often start early and push hard. The 3 pm meal I have in the lounge is sometimes my first bite for the day. I'd resent someone telling me to put a mask on whilst I was trying to eat!

Don’t think so but as they were potentially able to hand out fines, a number of people scattered if they didn’t have their mask on at the time. They even approached a seated woman who had a glass of drink and a plate of food.

All a bit sad really. Enforcement of Covid rules should be handled relative to the risk. It's expected that rules enacted under a SOE will be a bit clunky as they're done in a hurry to address a particular situation. A bit of common sense in the enforcement should be a requirement.

People in the lounge are leaving SA. As far as I know there's no community transmission in SA. The risk is very low and if people can't eat and drink without hassassment, they might as well shut the lounge and give up!

You're kidding right? So how are those people supposed to eat/drink?

Perhaps take a mouthful then pop mask on? I know. People weren't exactly happy with their presence.
