Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Surely his family also need to be isolating until cleared?

Well they certainly would be now. The family members may well have gone down the isolate till negative result at home path. (News report has stated that they are doing this).

My take on this the traveller was probably told that he had been possibly exposed and so could possibly become positive and contagious. He then put his family before himself and chose to go into HQ just in case he was positive and contagious. If so he sounds like a great family man to me. Having now tested positive I would imagine that he is very pleased on the decision he made to enter HQ voluntarily.

He could just as easily not have tested positive for days yet.

As it is he may well have prevented his family becoming positive by his actions. It will largely depend on when he became contagious.

Others in the past in Victoria (including non-travellers) have chosen this option. Particularly health workers.

There will always been waivers for hardship (suspect you'd have to be on a government sponsored repatriation flight to claim that) and payment plans (just as there are special loans for repatriation flight seats).

It may not be PC in today's world...

But if you're a dual citizen or essentially a permanent resident in another country, but now realising that perhaps the grass is greener here, if you're on a Government sponsored repat flight, and haven't returned previously, should you even be allowed to return? This whole dual citizenship/residency caper is where many (all?) of our issues are coming from.

Can we allow people to have their cake and eat it?

Rant over.

"We will be examining the gentleman's movements, particularly through the airport, where he did wear a mask, as he did on the flight."

Mr Foley said the man was asymptomatic and did not breach any health directives.

"He did exactly the right thing, he showed no signs of the illness and as a result of our friends in Western Australia notifying him and notifying us we were able to immediately get onto this case."

It does not seem to have been mentioned exactly when he was advised. (ie may have been after he had left the airport) From the reports he has been VERY careful, as was his wife. Probably a lot more careful than most.

The above tweet does indicate that his wife drove him home.

Well I think you get lot more info from ABC & 3AW.

Calling Vic health, shouldn't they be calling her (each passenger).

I'm not sure I follow. Some of the usual media sources who have certain editorial positions were certainly making a lot of the Feb statistic which I think was that only 44% of arrivals were Australian citizens. In delving deeper I worked out 91% of arrivals were either citizens, PRs or arrivals from NZ (not subject to caps or using up HQ spaces). It's entirely reasonable for PRs to be permitted to arrive, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be.

He had done his 14 days in WA, and it was only after his return to VIC that he was tested. Before the results came in, he asked to be moved to HQ as a precaution.
thats very impressive of him.

Why would you believe they would not be?

I would tend to think is that all that as soon it was discovered that he was positive and had been on that flight that they have advised the media to get the health alert out, and that this is simply a quicker to do that than getting all the contact details and then ringing all 200 people (which they will also do).

For a moment I was terrified as we flew PER=MEL on Wednesday.I had thought our WA disasters were behind us.
Fortunately we were on a different flight.

Nah. No need to be worried even if you were on the same flight. QF has assured us flying is 100% safe.

Except if you're cabin crew turning on an oven. Or serving spirits. 😷 😷

I do believe they are calling each passenger, just responding to the anti 3AW poster.

The positive test came thru at 2am, while the man & family were doing the absolute correct thing which I applaud. very commendable.

Maybe I'm being tedious, but with 200 passengers, how long would it take for VicDH / contact tracers to gain the manifest of all passengers of the flight? any privacy issues etc holding it up? Then by midday the caller hadn't been contacted yet, while her partner was already at work & how many other instances like this could of been happening, passengers at work, on public transport etc.

A positive case on a plane, no matter what's claimed by the airline hepa filters etc, the +case could've used the bathroom early in in the flight, taken mask off in bathroom, blew/wiped his nose, coughed whatever, touched the door handle / door & others could've been infected via that method.
We've heard how quick this virus can move & settle on surfaces.
Others use bathroom & head off to work on trains today.

The speed to contacting these ppl's is all I'm questioning, I'm not at all blaming anyone, gov, airlines or nobody. Just pondering worst case scenario here, I can see transmission get out & about.
Just asking the question & putting it out there.

It shouldn't take them any time at all. The fact is you require an entry permit to enter Victoria and when applying you must insert the date of your flight and flight number. It should be a one button click to initially notify everyone within minutes then start calling.

One of the weaknesses was waiting on manifests from airlines hence the border permit.

But considering I have had zero enforcement of whether I do or do not have a pass when entering Victoria, I wouldn't be surprised if many never applied.

If SA can have 9 and only 600 a week then sky is the limit. They must declare India as a no go zone because it won't improve.
In the context of NSW, 18 is about 20% of the ‘current’ cases [90]

NSW Health is treating 90 COVID-19 cases, one of whom is in intensive care and being ventilated. Most (98 per cent) are being treated in non-acute, out-of-hospital care, including returned travellers in the Special Health Accommodation.

Let’s see what’s the next lever pulled in relation to extremely high risk area

Edit: over 200 active cases in Australia with at least 36 today.
