New community transmission case being reported in WA from one of the exposure sites.

Restaurant spread

The new case came forward for testing after visiting a location both the Perth woman and Victoria man had also been at.

“COVID-19 transmission within a restaurant setting has now been recorded,” WA Health said.

“As a result, all restaurants where cases have dined-in are of higher risk.

“If you were at one of the following restaurant locations below, during the specified times, you must get tested and complete the full 14 days of self-quarantine regardless of your test result.

A new case of community transmission of COVID-19 has been recorded in Western Australia.

The recorded case comes after the official figures were released on Saturday, making it in addition to those announced already.

“The person presented for a COVID-19 test yesterday as they had attended one of the locations visited by the confirmed COVID-19 Victorian case, and the related local case,” WA Health Department said.

Update: Interstate acquired case

Yesterday, the Department of Health received notification of a positive COVID-19 result linked to a Hotel Quarantine facility in Perth.

Four household and social contacts are associated with this case – the individual’s spouse, his two children, and a friend of one child.

All have had an initial negative COVID-19 test. They will remain in quarantine for 14 days.

The Department will continue to manage the public health actions associated with this case and will continue to monitor the situation in Western Australia.

The Department has listed the following as a Tier 1 exposure site:

  • Qantas flight QF778 from Perth to Melbourne on Wednesday 21 April
The Department has contacted all 265 individuals from this flight, including passengers, crew and ground crew, using information obtained from comprehensive flight manifest data, and border permits.

Testing is underway for people linked to the flight. So far, 49 have returned negative test results.

If you were on this flight, you must isolate, get tested and remain isolated for 14 days – unless otherwise formally advised by the Department of Health.

The Department has listed the following as a Tier 2 exposure site:

  • Melbourne Airport Terminal One between 7pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday 21 April

The channel 7 news tonight featured a footy fan arriving from Perth yesterday and despite being told they were not allowed to go to the game, they said they would would ‘try their luck’ and see if they could get in. They did.

The messages were clear from both ticketmaster and the AFL that this person could not enter unless they had a negative test.

What to do?

Pretty obvious what to do, they breached a directive from the Chief Health Officer under the (extended and extended) State of Emergency powers as per Victorian law. The penalty for it is within the act.

There's interesting forces at work. On the one side it's very difficult to overestimate the stupidity of people in large numbers, but on the other, there's also collective community intelligence. You can fool some of the people...etc. As an example, at the moment, my airline can board passengers by row, ensure that we all wear masks, ensure that the hepa filters are working fine, ensure that the unwashed do not use the business class toilets but it matters not. One Covid positive passenger, game over for the rest of the plane. Based on that, why bother with all the precautions?
The same applies beyond the airfield. All these limitations and restrictions to prevent spread but one case and they lock down the State. It doesn't take long before the restrictions become the problem, not the virus. Who can blame people for "trying their luck"?

An interesting SMS from the Victorian authorities earlier tonight advising that as I may have entered Victoria from Perth I should self isolate and get tested.Well yes I transited MEL on my way from PER to BNE.Though we were in the J lounge of PER 22 hours before the infected fellow was at PER.Plus we were in transit from GET
Now we both applied online for the Victorian permit just in case. Not needed at all.
But we both applied individually.I got the SMS and a few hours later still no notification for mrsdrron.

So the carrier was contagious before he got on the flight to MEL. Now there are *how many* people in Melbs who have potentially caught it off him during the flight and in the terminal. If there's another lockdown, I'm actually going to need some serious mental health support. I'm terrified of a lockdown and equally terrified of catching covid, because I am high risk.

We NEED proper quarantine stations like Howard Springs. NOW.

The chances of contracting in flight, if the person was masked, is minimal. Air is circulated through the cabin constantly - a restaurant, as odd as it sounds, is far more of an infectious environment. Again, in the terminal, he should be masked. Just have to remember if you can, the chances of there being anyone infectious in Victoria at the moment is extremely small and way smaller again the chances of yourself having come in to any contact.

But I understand your feelings regarding another lockdown in Victoria...I would certainly not welcome it in any way. It's quite hard to think about, I do not want to ever repeat the last 12 months.

So overseas in some countries that test on arrival they publish the number of positive cases on your plane publicly a few days later so you can look it up.

My boss’s daughter was on an A320 service with 150 people on board.

There were 9 positive cases on board detected including 1 just in front of them.
They didn’t get it although they used the bathroom and sat about 30cm away from them all flight.

Everyone was masked which probably helped.

One thing I constantly notice is many people remove their mask to cough or sneeze.

I was at Canberra Airport to pick up my daughter yesterday. Probably about 10% of people had removed their mask as soon as they got off the plane and of the people who were there to meet passengers inside the terminal, maybe 30% wore masks. Don’t know whether people just didn’t know the rules or couldn’t be bothered. Certainly I didn’t see any signs that said you should wear a mask inside the terminal.

And in the QF lounges there are quite a few with masks below their jaw even if they have finished eating or drinking an hour ago.

In the last week I’ve been in the ADL QF and VA lounges several times and most take their mask off as soon as they are seated and don’t wear one even if not eating or drinking. Thursday night in the VA lounge I’d estimate my mask was on for about 5 minutes out of a near 2hr stay. Everyone else in the lounge did likewise

The question is whether this is a problem? The same people you are mixing with in the lounge could have been in the local supermarket with you an hour before and no-one was even thinking about masks. I feel the Qantas approach to lounges is pragmatic. Mask on whilst moving about but seated, not enforced.

SA Police will come into the Qantas Club and enforce mask wearing. Even when seated. Happened twice now with husband. Last time he took a photo as proof.

Nothing better to do. Police love them "rules and regulations" but the question is whether it's actually achieving anything?

Well yes. Angst is achieved. And because of the WA thing they will have new motivation to enforce. Go to NSW airport and even security weren't wearing them a couple of weeks ago.

Some check in agents at SYD domestic budget terminal were not wearing them either last week which I found bizarre.

But I guess they could have had exemptions.... I counted 2. Hardly was going to ask them why....
