Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Let’s look at action before words, and the recent ban on arrivals from India by Federal government can only be regarded as an admission that hotel quarantine isn’t really up to it. Time for them to stop passing the buck, admit quarantine is their responsibility (as it always has been) and then actually do something about it.

So much for WAs amazing handling of the pandemic 🙄. And he still had the nerve to criticize NSW this week. I can honestly say that there are few places I’d rather be in the world at the moment than Sydney. At least we have stability.
Though Tassie isn't too bad and doesn't lock out a whole State over 1 or 2 cases.
Mr.Gutwein got his reward tonight.Though there was a small swing against the Liberals. So it appears that you have to go overboard with lockouts to really win big.
Problem though was there was a bigger swing against Labor.

The problem with referencing the WA election is that many people outside of WA, maybe not you, do not realise what a shambles the WA Liberal Party has been over the last 7 or so years. Five different Parliamentary Leaders, riven by factional in-fighting and with extreme reactionary 'Christian' Churches employing branch stacking on a large scale in some seats- resulting in the unfortunate, for the Liberals, pre-selection of a number of candidates who were virtually unelectable once their views became known to the public at large. Combined with a number of 'older' members in supposedly safe seats who had become lazy and complacent. These are not just my views but also those of a number of the defeated Liberal candidates in the election and of even the conservative press commentators. Furthermore, their election campaign itself was the worst seen in living memory in WA - again not just my view but the almost unanimous view of the entire state regardless of their political persuasion.

It is also often forgotten that the Liberal party had suffered a 15.88% swing against in the 2017 election due to number of the same problems. This is actually greater than the just over 9 % swing against them in the last election.

That is incorrect. With the previous pause there was someone who rebooked PER-SYD & SYD-AKL on separate tickets. They flew on a green flight when this was banned for people who'd been in WA on relevant dates, and initially didn't go into quarantine on arrival. They now have done so.

Authorities are considering fines for the dual breaches of restrictions.
Friend in NZ emailed me overnight that NZ Govt pondering whether to fine / jail anyone who has been in WA in the past 14 days. ;)

Oh dear. It was my NZ friend's joke poking fun at Australian Govt rules proposing to jail and / or fine anyone who has been in India in the last 14 days.

So

- No new cases
- No lockdown
- No new restrictions

He couldn't announce no spectators at the footy last night because...

I thought they were still closed? Haven't been paying too much attention to the specifics to be honest.

They had opened Friday night I think.

But still, I agree that it would have been better to announce the no spectator thing yesterday. I imagine there's a bunch of people on the way from some of the regional areas right now.

The new Interstate Exposure Venues Direction requires anyone who has been to a declared COVID-19 exposure site to immediately go into 14 days of quarantine “in government-arranged accommodation”.

Rather than declaring entire cities or states as hotspots, the new direction targets specific venues, such as shopping centres and stores.

So basically copying the NSW approach but with the iso being n HQ instead of at home.

Well that's not going to last long is it? Once the HQ rooms fill up, where will they put every one else? There's 2500 people in iso here in VIC ATM because of the flight from Perth with the infected guy on it.

Which is why in Vic such people are instructed to quarantine at home. They do allow people who cannot quarantine at home to go to HQ though.

However it is good to see more jurisdictions moving to the second ring method.

Well that is because Vic use 2 ring method which effects many more people. As opposed to what is being proposed which is only those who were at the exposure sites at the same time as the positive which would be a lot fewer people.

But yes they do seem to be setting themselves up to need way more HQ capacity, which will probably then be used as another excuse to take fewer oversea arrivals and Qld already takes a very low number per capita.

Except that they arent. No mention of contacts of contacts needing to iso, only those who were personally at a decaled exposure site (i.e. first ring).
