He may not have had any idea what the store was called? “Woolworths. Here’s my receipt”. 😉
Or he could have said Woolworths. And asked which store? The one in Epping. Here’s my receipt ... which, unless the interviewer was familiar with the area may not have known there was a Woolworths Epping North so took the record at face value.

The only doubt about who’s at fault here is whether it James Merlino’s or whether ultimately it’s Dan’s fault

Well the QR codes are on the door, so responsible shoppers check in.

Check in data is crucial to track and trace and limiting outbreaks, it irks me no end that people who spend all day glued to their mobile cant spend a second to check in. Vaccination wont eliminate the need to use QR. There is reall no excuse for not checking in.

My local supermarket has only just put a QR code at the door. Target had signs asking you to scan in but no QR code to be found. Quite possible it wasn't there or not obvious enough.

And if shoppers don’t check in this is why we need reliable contact tracing via interview with positive cases.
Vaccination won’t eliminate the need for reliable contact tracing either using humans.

Edited

Maybe some people are more diligent than others, but when I look at the list of exposure sites, I read the addresses too, but in the intervening two weeks, the infected didn't pick it up either and he works in the area.

Agree and i never suggested it would.

But we can all help contract tracers be sucessful by checking in wherever we go, its not a big ask. Not checking in is selfish.

QR codes have been in use for 12 months at dining venues, and in NSW the service nsw one mandatory for 6 months, its not something new, checking in should be ingrained behaviour by now.

If there is no govt QR code at a store or business, they dont get my business.

I was in Melbourne during the week and only hospitality venues were mandatory QR code’s. Retail is exempt (or not enforced) I believe and hardly any had QR code’s.
Filled up with fuel back on one day and was surprised that the service station didn’t have a QR code and that they aren’t required to have one apparently

Not all States are at the same level as NSW.
I was using the Check in Tasmania app 12 months ago.it only became mandatory on 1/5/21.Yet 3 times there has been no QR code displayed. On 3 occasions I was asked if I had done it and the other 12 occasions the restaurant had the QR code displayed but few used it.

The whole QR thing is crazy. I travel a lot and I haven't the faintest idea what the mandatory requirements are in each State and which app I'm supposed to use. I do my best but realistically, anywhere I shop, I use CC and get a receipt. If I'm suddenly struck down by a Covid bullet, they simply have to take out my wallet and read the printed receipts. Time, date and location. Old fashioned but reliable!

The QR code is just to speed up the contact tracing process.

I believe the contact tracing team extracts where your phone number has logged in and then puts an alert out usually same day.

To get interview, rewards card or credit card receipts for example is more than 1 day.

Standing near the entry to a restaurant while people fumble to get on the QR can be a PITA.

Last night, PJM and I went to a casual Italian resto in Fremantle. Front the desk, given menus, told to grab any table we like, QR code is on the back of the menu, sit down, check in on the QR.

Too easy.

Most cafes I visit have the QR codes on the tables or menus, much easier.

The “new” mandated Qld Gov QR code system makes it extremely simple, and you can checkin multiple people at the same time. Pity it took governments so long to roll out. The older restaurant QR codes were a big PITB.

In SA it's mandatory to check in everywhere you go and I get asked regularly if I've checked in and some ask to see my tick.

It's not onerous and most bigger places have multiple places to scan and as others have said many put the QR code on your table at cafes and restaurants

One of our Mt Gambier crew was at Woolworths down there last week and the manager suddenly announced the doors to be closed and SAPOL then did a check on everyone in the store at the time and those not checked in were issued on the spot fines. Seemed a bit OTT and smacks of revenue raising but compliance in SA went up by over 50% last week so it’s working

Took two Ubers last night in suburban Melbs and neither of them had QR codes to check in with. Was not happy. MrSuze said "forget it, the app knows we were in here, but it's the PRINCIPLE.

maybe a bit OTT but I have no problem with that. I want to know if someone does have COVID that there is more chance of tracing them. I know I will be howled down but I have no problem with doing this post covid - I've got nothing to hide

Lots of people have huge concerns about the government tracking their movements and intruding on their privacy. The only organisations that should be allowed to do that are Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft and within Australia, Qantas. ;):p

Victoria having a blitz on non maskers on PT with $200 fines being issued

Good, the worst offenders are the staff, especially the goon squad ticket checkers who refuse to wear them but insist on screaming in your face even when you're holding your Myki there ready for them to scan it.
