Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

In SA it's mandatory to check in everywhere you go and I get asked regularly if I've checked in and some ask to see my tick

When I was in SA recently, at an AFF function :) I found the QR code impossible to use.

I scanned repeatedly upon arrival at the airport and eventually gave up, no one cared or checked. Nothing at the restaurant or my hotel.

Yet when I arrived back in MEL we had to prove we had our passes.

interesting - I don't think I've ever had an issue with the SA app

One of our Mt Gambier crew was at Woolworths down there last week and the manager suddenly announced the doors to be closed and SAPOL then did a check on everyone in the store at the time and those not checked in were issued on the spot fines. Seemed a bit OTT and smacks of revenue raising but compliance in SA went up by over 50% last week so it’s working
I would say that's well over the top. I've no problem with the general principle but it's police state tactics. Do we really want the RBT approach applied to general life? Accept it now and gradually it'll become the norm. There'll always be a good reason...

Wonder how long they've been detained and if there's any cause of action?

Victoria having a blitz on non maskers on PT with $200 fines being issued

Well I'm contributing to traffic congestion because sometimes I could have taken public transport. If NSW can have no masks on public transport, why's VIC different?

So sounds like they could be related to the stuff up with the Epping Woolworths and possibly the case from 3 weeks ago?
Emergency meeting called this morning, hopefully no snap lockdown required

No lockdown should be required as long as:

1/ Wheel out the second ring method.

2/ Keep presenting for testing if symptomatic.
Which this may well be. Regular testing means that transmission chain get detected quickly even if there are asymptomatic cases that initially fuel a transmission chain (as in the recent Sydney outbreak where no one has a clue how BBQ Man got infected.

3/ Go and get vaccinated if you are eligible.
The more people who get vaccinated the harder it is for any outbreak to build a transmission chain, and the less health issues to anyone unfortunate enough to get infected, and not just to you, but others that you may infect due to your inaction. Get a great enough% of people vaccinated and it also means that control measures are less required in any outbreak.

2/ and 3/ rely on individuals playing their part and fulfilling their obligations to the community that they live in.

Yes god please hammer home the get vaccinated ASAP message.

Use this wonderful opportunity!

Yes could well be. They after that did a big push in that area to go and get tested.

Or it could be an asymptomatic person from earlier went undetected, and now 2 symptomatic people presented for testing.

Or even an entirely new breach. Genomic sequencing will reveal if it is or not.

And why suddenly now. When Vic has done well..

Do it if you have an outbreak.

Although looks like 2 more community cases that may have been circulating for weeks due to stuff up with contract tracing. maybe instead of a crack down on PT, they need to look at forcing all venues to use official app and encourage people to check in to ensure accurate and timely contract tracing.

So we have potential mystery cases in VIC as well as the mystery case in NSW that is still unsolved....

Get vaccinated people!

as well as the mystery case in NSW that is still unsolved

Its been more than 2 weeks since the case and the only spread was to spouse. NSW health no longer list this as being investigation and their site says "There are currently no locations in NSW associated with a confirmed COVID-19 case."

The infected couple were diligent at checking in everywhere (so we didn't have Vic situation of listing the wrong store) and all close contacts have been tested more than once (and finished their iso), there is zero need to try and stir up panic in NSW to deflect attention from Vic.

As one does not gain instant immunity this smacks more of a tactic to use this outbreak to boost vaccination rates from amongst the vaccine hesitant, and based on Sutton's recent tweet he is very mindful of getting the vaccination rate up.

Yes, it would seem to be the case, very tactical.

Although looking at where last year's dire situation came from, and even the situation earlier this year that went out of of the Holiday Inn, (the outer northern and western suburbs), it might be prudent to make this area a priority.
