Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

“I wish no one what I am feeling right now so I made the decision to post this which wasn’t easy at first ... I feel guilt, also shame and fault.”
Mr Latour said he had followed all procedures required of him and he was proud of himself for going to the hospital by himself in pain.

“We can always ask ourselves why how and when or who’s fault it is but this won’t solve anything ... we need to stay strong and fight through this together,” he wrote.

Seriously... what have we become. These are not emotions that a sick person should be feeling yet our behavior has promoted it.

I’ve been flying a bit more in the last few weeks and have watched “it’s a sin” over a couple of flights. A very interesting series that looks at how we treated people with HIV/AIDS in the 80s. This included locking people in rooms while sick and not letting them out. We look back on that dark time now with great negativity. Yet I don’t think we’ve learnt much.

The headline doesn't really match the article. The doctor's criticisms seem to be about hotel quarantine in general...the same approach used in all states & territories with the exception of NT. I'd personally read it as more of a criticism of the federal govt for not coming up with something better over the past 10 months.

Nope, its just shoddy No News Corp reporting. It is all about the WA Gov.

Here is what he's been saying about the WA Gov preparation..... a better representation of the critical nature of poor planning and preparation in WA.

‘WA looks like an arrogant state’: Further cases likely, says top doctor

Dr Miller continued his criticism of WA’s ‘amateur’ hotel quarantine system, which he said did not learn lessons from outbreaks in other states where issues arose with air conditioning and staff working second jobs.

“It was quite predictable and we have the benefit sitting here of seeing what’s happened in other states with hotel quarantine and we can see the terrible problems that are breaking around the world at the moment and we have no scientific reason to think we are different to anyone else,” he said.

“I’m afraid the government have just dropped the ball in term of all the preparations needed here to be covidsafe

“WA is starting to look like a bit of an arrogant team who were in the lead at three quarter time and now we’re getting a bit of a kicking.”

Dr Miller called for immediate changes to improve quarantine facilities and beef up protocols.

Rumours of 8 cases to be announced today.
Was just chatting to a Perth work colleague and that is the talk over there, spread across several areas with the clock ticking. Let’s hope they jump on it early

No new cases at this stage but very early days.

In actual fact No New cases recorded overnight. 66 'close contacts' have tested negative so far but have been moved into quarantine. People are being urged to get tested if they have been near the at risk locations. Testing figures need to be increased but still over 10 times the 'normal' level for a Sunday.

Further from the Press Conference - It has been confirmed that the infected person has the 'UK Variant'. The Mining companies have come to an agreement about FIFO workers with 'essential' workers given permission to fly but not the 'ordinary' workers.

Was getting a little concerned given McGowan was 20min late but zero is good.

They've only got results back on 13 of the 60+ close contacts.

Talk about slow testing, nastier people would say they were lucky they could even find a testing machine in Perth ;)

He was rumoured to be late because of another meeting where there were some loud disagreements with the 'invisble' CHO.... can't imagine what that would be over

So that's everyone but NSW... Place your bets now for what they'll do in the morning.

For everyone following along with this dog's breakfast at home:

QLD : 6pm today PER is a hotspot - $2800 hotel quarantine required - anyone previously in Perth "should" get tested and self isolate until Negative result received.
TAS : Those off today's Perth flights told to self-isolate and await further instructions - restrictions likely to be introduced tomorrow.
SA : No restrictions on entry but must self isolate at home/accommodation for 2 weeks and get tested days 1, 5 and 12.
NT : 7:30pm today PER is a hotspot - $2500 hotel quarantine required - anyone previously in Perth needs to get tested and self-isolate until negative.
ACT : People on today's flight from Perth told to self-isolate and await further instructions.
VIC : 9pm today PER is a red zone - no entry at all unless exempt (freight driver etc) - not even residents can return - anyone previously in Perth needs to get tested and self-isolate until negative.

Victoria is clearly the strictest... locking out even their own residents for the time being.

I can tolerate a 3 day lockdown, but why WA went all out for 5 days I don’t know. As long as people can return to their respective states/territories after 3 days. Even if that involves getting tested, quarantine at home for an extra 3 days (rather not but I would) but to lock people out of states especially up to 14 days is pure nuts! I’ll be back in Melbourne soon and contemplating a plan B if something occurs there and I can’t get back to Queensland. At least I know I’ll always be able to get into Sydney.

My son went to the Joondalup Health Campus COVID clinic this morning and people were queued up a very long way. I suggested he go back late in the day. Results are usually back the next morning.

Well could be one fo two reasons:

1. They know they do not have sufficient test sites or lab rescoures to guarantee quick processing of test results, so have added an extra 48hours to make sure they have results for all of the close contacts (and any subseqeunt close contacts of cases identified during initial 3 days) before opening back up.

2. Political motives to out do the lockdowns in SA and Qld, McGowan loves to talk about how other states aren't going hard enough.

Im thankful i live in NSW as I know Gladys wont lock me out from retruning, even if I have to iso at home/hotel if deemed a close contact. Cant have any genuine holidays anymore must always take work phone and laptop with you in case you end up not being allowed to leave.

I think that it is pretty obvious that the simple reason is that they believe that the lockdowns in Adelaide and Brisbane were very effective and have decide that it is the appropriate response. The Premier had certainly made supportive remarks about the Brisbane approach even in the last few days.

And as to 'outdoing' the other states, the initial Adelaide lockdown was planned to be for 6 days not 5 as here. It was reduced by 3 days with the discovery about the 'pizza worker' lies..

Interesting report on ABC news tonight re arrivals from Perth. Quarantine for 5 days except if you have an essential worker exemption and some polies coming in for parliament this week have pulled that one. Apparently some will quarantine but for others it's business as usual!

VIC didn't lock down at all after the Blackrock cluster seeded by the Sydney outbreak and they managed just fine.....

.....But better contact tracing and containment procedures plus better covidsafe compliance in the population than SA and QLD and WA I suppose.
