Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It is the only path out indeed.

The relatively invisible mental toll of these further restrictions and lockdowns is what will really be the cost over the next few weeks and months
Years. We don't know the impact yet on teens who have missed out on lifetime markers they can't retrieve. Young Mums and babies who have been isolated from family and even mothercare nurses (who switch to remote when restrictions apply and which does not cut it), so many misses on lifetime things that will never be repeated. Mental Health Services are stretched with either long wait lists or not even accepting new clients.

Slightly OT but I seem to recall someone querying regarding lounges. Not sure about the others but Sydney domestic is shut for next two weeks.

New exposure sites added at 9.54PM Sunday 27 June in NSW including now for Sydney Olympic Park.

Of particular concern is that the T2 Domestic airport food court also features for 5 hours on 24 June suggesting that a person who worked in the food court may be a positive case. Note that this is the day before the FA's two days (25/26 June) of flights via the airport.
I think this is the first time SYD has made it to the NSW Health exposure sites list...even though we know there was travel from there to WLG and MEL by confirmed cases the prior weekend.

It’s why we continued to visit Ms FM all the way through the nationwide lockdown last year. Emergency Caesar, 6 weeks prem baby, first time mother and she pretty much got dumped as all care went online. Recipe for PND.

Has anyone yet asked "who made the decision to use private limousines to transport crew"? Why not the army or the police? ;)
I guess the government did, by default? Like you said in your post earlier, it just isn’t possible to legislate health orders to cover every single scenario/exception and it is a learning process so I wouldn’t necessarily be too harsh with them over why they never worked out that there was a loophole with mask wearing and vaccinations for drivers. While he is indeed a little smug, I agree with one thing Hazzard said - which is people need to exercise commonsense and protect themselves.

However, I feel not locking down a few days before we did may have been our undoing this time. Time will tell…

QLD PRESSER:

2 new cases.

1 is a Delta strain

EDIT
"We now have three new cases. One is in hotel quarantine and two are locally acquired. So there's a case that's linked to the Portuguese restaurant and that person is in home quarantine, so we're not concerned about that.

"But ... reported yesterday, there is a female miner from the Sunshine Coast and it is confirmed as positive with the Delta strain."

Qld: new Sunshine Coast case (miner) has Delta strain. I thought their hotel leakage was Alpha strain?

It is. So this is new. Either originally from HQ or NSW? But via the mine site most likely. But could be via other chains too.

They have two leaks

The Alpha strain is the international flight attendant who started the DFO cluster

The Delta strain was caught by the VIC-NT traveller who caught it at the Novotel from within HQ (not linked to the SYD outbreak) - I don't think they knew it was definitely Delta but NT Chief Minister said they strongly believed it was yesterday, so assume that is the case.

Zero in SA so far but with 26 miners here, 13 so far negative. Coordinated through Vic tracing programme.

I raised this the day the limo driver was announced. Transport of aircrews should have always been done via dedicated vehicles run by the state, since the crew are staying at state managed hotels. But you know this.

Most likely a second leak, of course the other possibility given the timing, is that is the delta strain is linked to the delta strain circulating in Victoria and the miner brought it from Vic to Qld.

Looks like the practice of quarantining low risk domestic travellers next to high risk international travellers is on the National Cabinet agenda to be banned.

Expect all states to reduce incoming traveller numbers - which Queensland claim are only 50% AU citizens and PRs.

NSW has enough on its plate - we couldnt deal with a HQ breach - I think we should stop the program or cut to 500 a week or similar.

ABC reports: Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has also flagged she wants to look at temporarily lowering the international passenger caps again.

So make it harder for Aussies to get home, when the community cases have come from air crew, is she going to restrict the freight arrivals too?

Given that 50% of those coming in are neither citizens or PRs, she does have a point.

When this stat has been used in the past...I think Sky News is one that's tried to agitate its base with it...a quick look at the data reveals that travellers via the NZ bubble were being included in the total. So a couple of months ago when I last looked the number of international arrivals that were NOT citizens, PR or NZ bubble was about 10%.

Not suggesting things haven't changed...but would be keen to see the working.

That's a different issue but she has loved letting those Hollywood types in. Have said all along citizens need to be prioriritsed.

Qld rate of arrivals is already quite low per capita.
