Australian state border restrictions

You may want to double check but I thought they allow direct transfer at Melbourne Airport.

But Hvr might be right with a better option, drive to Adelaide or Canberra.

Can those in regional VIC, outside the border zone even enter NSW or SA?

SXE-CBR-ASP-DRW would probably work better. :)

With connections MQL-BXG-CBR!

AVV is out, I'm afraid, as City of Greater Geelong + Shires of Mitchell, East Gippsland and Macedon Ranges are excluded.

I assumed NT announced that on the assumption NSW (and possibly SA) would open its border as well.

BNE won’t allow MEL transits, I’m not sure SYD would either (MEL flights are arriving at the international terminal). I think the intent was get yourself to NSW/SA and fly from there. I would assume NSW would permit you to fly from ABX as a regional Victorian.

Apparently the budget assumes WA wont open up until 1st April 2021

Yes being discussed in the other thread - was in the news.

Quite a clever move because has caused a backlash in WA against the Premier who has come out and said we are constantly reviewing and will be earlier.

As of November 2, most regional Victorians will be able to travel to NT without quarantining on arrival.

So how do I get there without catching a flight from the metro area? Hmmm.
Where was this information provided? I'm regional Victoria and had heard that NT still had hotspots declared. Can you provide a link please?

This thread is better, here is the link

Getting back to NZ, as has been noted a number of times, its much easier for the Ardern government to control the pandemic there as they hold all the relevant powers; much easier to appear a great leader.

I thought the great leader lived in Korea. Maybe he has an NZ cousin.

Drive to CBR?

Can't do that. Not allowed out of the NSW side of the buffer zone.

It's really a perfect bit of political double talk. Allowing people to do something, that is stopped by another state. Rather like the NZ travel bubble, that's only one way. Utterly pointless, but it makes it sound like a politician is doing something.

Appearances can be deceiving 😇

Although I feel the WA Premier will backflip or be told to open by the High Court we have decide to play safe and switch our SYD-PER flights from 29/3 to 1/4.
As that is the first day at the moment of the border opening decided to get in quick to change the award.So now on the 0820 flight instead of the 1040 flight.
On AA only the 0620 flight has 2 J award seats left.Previously we had been able to pick any flight.

I think we get the argument, or rather, opinion.

To me, the greatest display of leadership was the creation of the bipartisan National Cabinet which from all accounts has worked exceptionally well.

A leader can only lead in the jurisdictional areas that apply in our National and State Constitutions. In prior cases where the states' control and implementation has been messy, the Feds have attempted to take control (eg by using the Corporations Law), but that ability is limited. The Feds, for instance, can only 'offer' the ADF to the States.

Yes, Rooflyer, it is only an opinion he or she is espousing, and I agree with you. Gremlin does not appear to realise that Australia is merely a federation of states (or countries/colonies, as they were until the end of 1900), and that it is imperfect, yet it is five times as large as NZ, which is unicameral.

This will likely operate the exact same way it did for regional NSW when greater Sydney was a hotspot. You’ll be allowed to drive to MEL airport but you’re not supposed to stop for fuel, or visit anyone, post mail etc within the hotspot area otherwise you are considered to have been in the hotspot area. There are instructions on the NT website about overnighting within a 5km radius of airport, getting room service only. That’s what they did for NSW. Incredibly detailed.

p.s. Hilton Darwin’s new bar/dining area should have opened by now.

Indeed so, there is a standard exception to transit through hotspots to get to an airport in one

You can, if you are so bold, even ride a bicycle to the airport, provided you can do it without dismounting in the hotspot 🤔

4. A person is taken not to have been in a COVID-19 hotspot if the person has been in a COVID-19 hotspot only in one or more of the following circumstances:
  1. the person travelled through a hotspot in or on a motor vehicle, public transport or a bicycle and did not leave the vehicle, disembark the public transport or dismount the bicycle while in the hotspot;
  2. the person was only at an airport located in a hotspot;
  3. the person travelled into or out of a hotspot by motor vehicle, public transport or bicycle directly to or from an airport located in the hotspot and did not leave the vehicle, disembark the public transport or dismount the bicycle while in the hotspot except to enter or leave the airport;
  4. the person:
    1. arrived by aircraft or motor vehicle from outside a hotspot; and
    2. travelled directly to a hotel that is within 5 km of an airport (an airport hotel) located in a hotspot for the purposes of overnight stay while transiting; and
    3. did not leave the hotel room (except in an emergency) until departing the hotel to travel directly to the airport.

cheers skip

The trouble is I doubt there will be demand for direct MEL-DRW flights and you would need to be permitted to transit BNE, SYD or ADL. Queensland specifically does not allow MEL pax.

3 flights per week nonstop with JQ. Just had a quick look at google flights and they show up on the Qantas website too. As restrictions, borders ease, flights will pop up.
