Australian state border restrictions

The wait in SA has been around 8 hours.
Miss Nutwood and I got tested this afternoon for our return to Tassie. On the advice of a helpful AFF member we booked at a SA Health site. Booked for 1 pm, turned up at 12.50 pm and got tested at 2.45 pm. Not too bad but still a waste of time.
I am slightly puzzled how a booking only site runs so far behind. It was a 24 hour site so I would have thought they'd just adjust the booking numbers to eliminate most of the queue.

Great to see SA is using symptoms of COVID that aren't present in Delta or Omicron (e.g., nausea, vomiting, sore throat, fever or chills, cough). Meanwhile those of us with seasonal allergies have runny and blocked nose all the time. Are they really expecting us to test every single day? Don't get me wrong, I do a rapid antigen test every week just as a safety measure but this is getting a bit overkill.

Not sure where you got your symptom list from but omicron seems to start with a scratchy throat and a hospital worker picked up a Delta outbreak from someone presenting to hospital with a persistent cough.

Has has spent the last 2 years instilling the fear of God about covid in to his entire electorate.

Seeing record numbers in their thousands in the other states will lead him to a "cautious delay in reopening while the booster program effectiveness is fully considered"

And he will continue to keep delaying until such time as covid enters through other means and then the game is away, it's done we may as well open now, and he gets off the hook.

Sadly I think you may be right but who would accept that…?

Wait you had an appointment and still had to wait 2 hours?

I recently went to two Christmas parties. Not a single person was wearing a mask. And it was okay, because there’s no epidemic where I live. Western Australia has managed to sustain zero COVID for nearly 2 years. Eliminating COVID-19 was always possible. The world chose not to.
Meanwhile, I went to a Christmas party last week and so far 3 +ve results. Masks were worn when not eating/drinking.

What good is there in getting the booster if all it does is make your COVID symptoms go away thereby making it easier to spread? Unless the strategy is of course to let 'er rip to get herd immunity with no one really getting sick.

Sarcasm surely! The whole point is to prevent you getting sick/symptoms, if you are positive but don't know it that is a win.

he main concern though is if they're not sick they can still transmit COVID to someone who may very well get sick.

Then Id ask why isnt that person also vaccinated? You cant restrict everyone because a tiny percentage of people choose not to be vaccinated or have a condition which means they cant get vaccinated. Living with covid, means getting on with life, not testing people who are healthy.

This doctor is well known in medico circles as being slightly unhinged 😂 She’s firmly on the block list. And is also completely incorrect factually.

Although, widely held view in the west. (I tend to think, in the beginning, WA stumbled into the 0 covid position, rather than aimed to get there)

And there's quite a 'don't open the borders' movement brewing in social media.

Sometimes there is no line for bookings so you get caught up in the wrong queue. Left hand right hand kind of thing.
Our site was exclusively booking only. They stopped us as we approached and checked the SMS confirmation. They turned away the vehicle ahead of us who presumably had not booked. It was then one queue that became two on the home stretch. The vehicle that was behind us in the single queue ended up next to us in the double queue and was about to be tested as we left.
All very well organised, staff were more cheerful than you would expect. I did feel sorry for the traffic management people, standing around in the sun in full long sleeved high viz and wearing masks continually. Setting an example I suppose but really, the masks were pointless apart from the rare direct interaction with a car.

So why not abolish the 72 hour test as well? Is the argument that COVID is worse when you get it interstate? [rhetorical questions, no justification needed unless your name is Prof Spurious]

They appear to be formalising Qld's informal position. Clog up the other state's resources and not your own.

Cheers skip

I hope National Cabinet ends this practice, or at least switches to the rapid test.

Will National cabinet also remove pre-test for international arrivals?

It's pretty much useless now I agree. Every variant gets more and more infectious, no one had a chance against omicron and won't have a chance against anything in the future either.
