Australian state border restrictions

AP needs to let go of remote quarantine, Wellcamp doesn't meet the criteria for Federal funding.
It doesn't meet the criteria simply because Morrison and Hunt can't be seen to agree to a plan from a state Labor government.

Quarantine facilities should have been on the drawing board over 12 months ago. The proposed one at the old barracks near Brisbane Airport won't be built before the next election, if at all.

So how do you explain why they did they agree to one of the Victorian Labor Governments proposal?

The difference was the location of the facilities (not being rural, using federal owned land), proximity to an international airport run by the Feds (MEL) and proximity to hospitals with facilities capable of treating serious ill covid patients.

Wellcamp proposal is on private land, at a private airport (no border force presence) and too far from suitable hospital.

That's why the Feds proposed a alternate location to Qld which does meet the criteria. They also pitched locations to WA government.

Good marketing does not actually involve building what you propose.

It's probably more to do with the fact that local members are LNP members and maybe the people of Toowoomba don't want a quarantine hub there and putting it there could cost the government a seat at the Federal election. I doubt many here would say they want a quarantine facility built near them.

If AP had proposed a location that was in a Federal Labor seat that Labor was likely to hold the Feds probably would have had no problem with it as it may bring the seat into play.

Think there is a bit more to it than that. The logistics of Wellcamp makes it difficult. Unless you are going to run dedicated QF repatriation flights there no other airline has any want or desire to fly there for starters

Oh but AP said they’ve spoke to several airlines including QF and all are biting at the champ to fly there....*

*lie or truth....

I might have to go against a policy not to do on-line petitions :)

Thanks for the link. I just signed it. She needs to hear from the little people. And although she obviously only cares about Queensland voters, Queenslanders are not the only people affected by her decisions.

Indeed - she could end up doing her HQ on return in Sydney. NSW Government desperately searching for a 1* hotel to add to the HQ program specially for AP.
