Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

Hi all,

Finally got my first redemption on BKK-MEL in September for 40k in J. Question, they only give you a reservation number so you're practically unable to check anything to do with your booking.

At least from memory with previous award redemptions on other programs, you're always given a proper E-ticket/booking reference with the airline to manage your booking on the home airline's website/app. Is this not the case with lifemiles? Will I have to wait until 24 hours prior to departure to be able to check/do anything?
They both use Amadeus I think so the booking reference should be the same .

I had an incident once about 8 years ago where I got to the airport to check in and was told my booking has not been ticketed properly. Luckily I had enough time to contact LM and sort it out but ever since I always make sure to call them a day or so after making new booking and request to email me the ticket. That’s what I’ll recommend everyone to do to avoid unnecessary stressful situations later.

In some cases, like when booking TK, the partner airline use different system hence will not be possible to manage your booking online. In such cases LM agents will be able to select seats on their end. There shouldn’t be any such issues with TG as they use same system as AV.

Bought a biz class flight for 40 k points bkk - mel on thai theu lifemiles . Chased up the eticket . But it doesn’t mention anywhere it’s biz class .
Do I need to be concerned ? It’s was 32 k for economy and 40 k for biz . Any tips ?

You can use the booking reference on Thai’s manage booking page. That will confirm the booking class, and i think also show you the e-ticket.

40k is the correct price ex BKK to AU. It’s 50k leaving Australia. (dunno why!)

Absolutely. Anyone who dealt with LM long enough knows how incompetent they are in every step of the way. The above is just another example in a long list…
The call staff are actually pretty decent when you have them on the phone! Some are really helpful.

Website yes. But LM call staff in the award department - once you get hold of them - are actually very good.

They used to be helpful once upon a time when they could book multi city itineraries but these days they just follow whatever is on the website which is broken more often than not. Sure they will help to select seats and send electronic tickets but that’s basic.

There MAY (unlikely if your itinerary doesn't touch The Americas) be free cancellation within 24 hours...but that is likely to be your only 'less expense' option...with all the inherent risks.

You are correct. You can cancel within 24 hours free of charge. The points get credited back immediately.
Apparently as explained to me that is only if your a resident and citizen of US . I can cal back in 6 hours and try and speak to supervisor . Any tips anyone ?

Yeah. the 24 hour cancel thing is largely US-centric. Although some airlines like Qantas also offer it, but not required by law.
