Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Finally found tickets & booked. A little confused though with how ticket redemption works with SQ? I remember when booking Thai I entered the reservation number on their website to confirm the flights and also called them and advised them of where we want to sit. I'm assuming it's the same for SQ? Do you get sent any info regarding baggage etc?

Their site doesn't seem to work and requests a booking reference or ticket number starting with 618.

I booked a J Melb-Sing flight last week. Two days after booking, I received an email from 'Taca Intl Ticketing Office' and this had the Booking reference. I then used this six letter/number booking reference and my surname to bring up the flight details on the SQ website and selected my seat/meals.

That's correct. The Avianca PNR works on the SQ site...however not until ticketing has been done. So if you book, then try and manage the booking before tickets are issued it won't work.

If I see F4 A4 P0 on a KVS for TG flights - does it mean that TG will not release any more F award for that flight?

(same goes for C9 D9 J9 Z0)

Or would they allocate more award flights at a later point in time?

there is no guarantee, but worth keeping an eye on it. TG has been known to release seats right up until departure.

Thanks - given that my flight is over the Christmas/New Year, I think chances are pretty slim so I am going to look for alternatives.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Thanks for the help. The SQ website was just playing up.

I was thinking today, despite eventually learning how all this works in respect to booking flights using points etc, I never really established why these flights even exist. Obviously the airlines are aware of the ability to use programs like LM to redeem cheaper flights. Isn't it in their interest to monitor programs and ensure the acquisition of points is in line with close to the cost of a standard ticket? How does SQ in this case benefit from the flight booked? Presumably they get some cut of the cost of attaining the points with LM but it would be little in comparison to me as an example booking the flight normally. Only way this makes sense is if they have a surplus of seats.

Award seats are only seats the airline doesn't expect to sell. They also want to make their own program attractive, hence making award redemption possible across a range of airlines (ie staralliance + whatever partners they may have).

Allowing other airlines to redeem award seats on their flights off-sets the price of SQ members redeeming seats on partner/alliance airlines.

SQ A380 Business class good availability for the next 330 days for the new AKL/SIN service commencing October 27th. Shame the LM interface doesn't allow AirNZ connection to/from MEL/SYD as part of the same ticket :(

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

you want the SQ booking reference (I'd try the Thai one for starters and see if that works). Otherwise, you can just call SQ and give them your flight details and they'll bring up the booking for you and help with seats. Write down their booking reference and then you can make your own changes after that if you want. (The SQ site can be temperamental so you might have to wait for a bit before it retrieves the booking, or even enter in the information a couple times.)

I booked an SQ redemption last week for tonight (BKK - SIN - SYD) and the reference that LM displayed after payment was my SQ reference. It worked on the SQ site within an hour so I could choose my seats, not that we had much choice!

They are all Amadeus so use one and the same, so you are correct there shouldn't have been any issue. Enjoy the flight!

Interesting, thanks for sharing that. Still obviously this won't work for connections but its a start and we can just use QF/AA to get back from AKL.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I have a LifeMiles booking that includes a segment on Air China (PVG-MEL). I am confused as to whether I should be concerned about the E-ticket status, certainly the two people I spoke to at Air China were not. The second gentlemen was very helpful and even sent me this (which I have depersonalised using ***). Unfortunately in the email he didn't specifically say "e-ticket confirmed", just "as discussed". The thing that confuses me is the HK codes against the reservation (as opposed to OK). Hopefully someone here with more experience in these things can tell me not to worry and that at Toronto and Pudong airports we will have no dramas.

Any ideas on the next 100% promo guys.
I was hoping there would be one before prices go up in October....

The thing that confuses me is the HK codes against the reservation (as opposed to OK).

I believe HK is normal but the use of it is differs between airlines systems. For CA I think if your segment status is HK or RR you are good to go.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

So air China says its fine but you're still not happy?

HK means confirmed fyi.

There is a series of posts of people having problems with Air China and seemingly confirmed reservations. On Travelsky (the Chinese GDS) the words next to HK translated to "confirmed, please ticket" and various other sources seemed to distinguish between HK and OK on the basis of whether a ticket was there. My checking and re-checking was then partly due to language - my uncertainty as to whether I had expressed my question clearly in a way that then got the desired response.

The tkne entry is your ticket number. Ca Hk means air China confirmed it.

My upcoming shows:

状态:已订妥,请准时登机(RR)

According to Google translate: Status: booked, please punctual boarding (RR)

AFAIK HK and RR have the meaning...RR = reconfirmed, which is something the helpful guy in the CA MEL office did when were sorting out my schedule change.

I don't think you will see 'OK' in Travelsky at all.

Next month or three months time, they are consistent with two month intervals but do miss the odd one to keep us guessing.
