re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I have that cutesy voice etched into my brain I think...I actually look forward to hearing it when I'm there! Although, I have a feeling when I stay in the transit hotel I'll be hearing it ALL night long! :D It's not as good as Japanese train station jingles though!

lol - how can you not love the Japanese train station "jingles"! :D

The only thing I like at the airport is the cheap massage. If I have a long layover I will get another 1 hour foot massage for 500THB in addition to the complementary 1 hour oil massage in the F lounge.

exactly, it's the best airport for long transits since you can have nice long massages for little money.

Can you pay for sn additional massage at the F lounge, or do you go elsewhere? A 1 hour foot massage siunds like heaven!! Ps almost an AFF cstchup :(

There are a couple of massage shops dotted around the departures hall.

I never asked about that at the F lounge. There are 2 massage places at both ends of the terminal in the DF level.
If you think 1 hour foot massage is heaven, try 2 hours mixed with head and shoulders! I usually do that when I have long layovers flying OW :D

No cash massage at tg spa. There are a couple of options both land side and air side. I go at the intersection of a b c concourse

Do you guys think you can give recommendation on this flight? I have no clue about what to look out for when choosing a flight (what constitutes a good/bad plane). I've had no luck finding SQ flights back from Europe in October. Can't also seem to find any F flights departing from Melbourne.

SQ is the way to go. TG isn't bad - but not anywhere near the standards of SQ.

TG will offer full flat beds on their A380 services, and on the morning 773 departure from Bangkok back to MEL. So TG will be fine for sleeping, but it will be a bit of a disappointment after SQ.

Theres generally a t-7 day rule with SQ into and out if Australia hence why the departure is showing up but the return not. I think(?) there's not a great deal of difference in booking a one way vs return with LM (just an additional $50 booking fee?) so may be worth waiting until closer if you're game (and if you don't need to show proof of return flight etc)

i havent come across SQ R/F in/out AUS with LM but understand its available on other routes (DEL-SIN for example)

edit- re plane types, you can usually get on the A380 with SQ if it's a suitable flight time for you.

There is no TG F for MEL-BKK leg so it wont show on LM even if there is F available on CDG-BKK leg, unless of course you book them as separate legs which is probably not the most cost efficient way of booking it.

My understanding is that TG flies A380 for CDG-BKK leg and 773 for BKK-MEL so J are both fully flat bed (though probably not the same quality as the SQ J)

You could either do what tdogshookem suggested - book a one-way to CDG and wait until T-7 to book your return leg with SQ (if you have some flex and willing to take the risk). Alternatively if you want to play safe then you can book the MEL-CDG and CDG-MEL as two separate one-way bookings, and then cancel the CDG-MEL leg and rebook it to SQ if and when it becomes available. (which will cost you $50 cancellation fee + decent amount of time over the phone with LM support....)

All good points however A380 getting harder (impossible yet?) out of MEL due to SQ sending 777/A330 here instead.

If you really want F product - TG F has availability on 7th Aug from SYD-CDG and 10th Oct CDG-SYD, so you could consider doing that + getting a cheap SYD-MEL /MEL-SYD leg separately.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Youre living in the wrong city! :) mel seems to get the better availability QF to LAX and DXB/LHR though

Oops my mistake.

I'll take living in MEL and less A380s over living in SYD any day :p

Note: I flew to SYD in June to get the A380 for SIN...

Thanks for your replies.

Just found out there will be a 3rd joining us. Can't seem to find a return out of Europe for 3 around October. Do you guys think that flights will clear up closer to October? Might be worth getting a one way now and will until last minute to get a flight out of Europe, but last thing we want is to be stuck!

Finally found tickets & booked. A little confused though with how ticket redemption works with SQ? I remember when booking Thai I entered the reservation number on their website to confirm the flights and also called them and advised them of where we want to sit. I'm assuming it's the same for SQ? Do you get sent any info regarding baggage etc?

Their site doesn't seem to work and requests a booking reference or ticket number starting with 618.

you want the SQ booking reference (I'd try the Thai one for starters and see if that works). Otherwise, you can just call SQ and give them your flight details and they'll bring up the booking for you and help with seats. Write down their booking reference and then you can make your own changes after that if you want. (The SQ site can be temperamental so you might have to wait for a bit before it retrieves the booking, or even enter in the information a couple times.)
