Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Also raises the issue if they will keep F class for a fleet of just 6 A380s? Unless they plan to reconfigure their 77Ws.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

If BNE/BKK gets cut then that'll pretty much scupper viable longer-term plan options from BNE for Star Alliance redemptions, given that the only other viable option - SQ - has a close-in 14 day window only.

That window has closed already! I have not seen a single SQ ex-BNE award seat in J for > a month now.

The only chance, is BR at T-14. You can still see some occasional seats on Wed and Sat....

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm surprised BKK/LAX was kept as long as it was. I didn't think they could be making money on that route. It was easier to find SQ Suites space to the USA than it was to find any premium TG space to LAX.

Isn't that a contradictory statement? If premium TG space to LAX have been scarce, doesn't that mean they would have had more paying customers? It's not like TG holds back (award) space when there isn't much paying customers, right?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

MH and QF both only have F in their A380s.

Plus Qatar. It's the trend unfortunately.

The problem with TG if they eliminate all F cabin other than A380, then only a few would have access to their exceptionally good first class lounge. Unlike MH/QF/QR, all are OW members, who allow OW Emerald to access F lounge. *A gold usually only have access to business lounge.

I'm curious what will happen with SYD. As of now the W15 schedule is still only showing one a day on each of the LHR, FRA & SYD routes. I saw rumoured that the remaining LHR flight will (finally!) go A380 on 1 July. Based on last years tinkering with SYD I'd guess F service will go and the operating aircraft will be 77W, perhaps still 2 daily, who knows. Or SYD might keep F until a plan can be put together to get rid of or park the 747s.

The source on FT also said that ZRH...currently offering F service on A346 will go 77W.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Doesn't look good for some of us points-flyers who enjoy TG's F service to Sydney. I have booked flights with them in April and August so the odds aren't good that I will be flying F, especially for the latter service. Might go check BA awards and book a BA F service ex-SIN to SYD, just in case.

Nice! Hope you confirmed it's Ok? ;)

I'm on a F RTW this July/August but the only flight I couldn't get on an A380 was the BKK-SYD leg :( Let's hope they are still operating F then.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

That makes me really nervous now. Have 4 flights in F booked for mid September, one on the A380 (BKK-FRA) and 3 on the 747 (2x SYD-BKK, 1x BKK-MUC). Is there any indication how soon they plan to retire those 744s? You'd hope this would affect the poor-performing routes first (and I haven't seen SYD or MUC mentioned among of those), but then again it's TG, they probably just throw a dice to help them make decisions...

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone can help. I have used USDM several times but never Avianca and a few months ago made a booking for a friend during one of the sales. It is a One Way F award on Thai to London.

Originally TG472 was leaving Sydney at 2:20pm and there was a 3 hour layover at Bangkok airport. Now however it lands at 3:50am which means his plane to Bangkok leaves almost 3 hours before he lands.

What can I do about this? Should I be contacting lifemiles or Thai? I thought I would double check here first as I know contacting Lifemiles can be a mission.

Has anyone else been in the same predicament? Right now it is just letting the booking exist even though the connection time is in the minus.

Thanks!

EDIT: May not have been crystal clear but there was a schedule change which I've just been notified of.

Really? They've put the 472 schedule back to that crazy timing they considered last year?

If so, persevere with TG (Syd office)...they should be able to fix this...THEN get LM to reissue the ticket.

I've just checked my bookings and have exactly the same problem now with one of them: TG472 has been rescheduled from 14:40 departure to 21:30, which means missing the connection to MUC in BKK by 3 hrs. Haven't been notified yet but can see it in the TG check my bookings. So I'll give it another day or two to see what they do about it, then will contact the local TG office I guess.

Yes, I was only notified by CheckMyTrip - neither TG or Lifemiles has actually notified me!

I think this change has just happened, but I wouldn't expect a proactive fix by either party, you'll have to work at it.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Keep in mind with Thai that sometimes things get changed again, so leaving it until the dust settles may be a wise move.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I have booked 2 European trips with Thai in the past...these schedule changes with resultant misconnects are a perennial and frustrating problem with TG...give it a week or two, and start with the local TG office. ..good luck!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Thanks, I had seen this as well. I don't they are reporting time changes at all, only frequency and equipment, and routes in general. There must be more changes coming, because those changes represent a lot of routes were 777s replace A330, but little routes were those 777s are taken off, nor where the A330s will go to.

PS: congrats to 2000 posts.

S**t! That means most of TG European connection is out as most of them leaves BKK at around midnight.

Well, looks like it didn't matter whether LM fix the glitch or not, F to Europe in one ticket is out!

For those who already got an existing booking, I remember reading somewhere, even if TG is willing to rebook you to an earlier flight to make connection possible, LM won't reissue the ticket if the new connection time is > 8hrs as it's against their routing rule. Let us know how it goes.

Good luck!
