Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

... Spent ages convincing them it should only be 80K miles total (and then less due to the miles + cash arrangement). Eventually they accepted that it was a 'one way' booking and not a return but they decided upon a different figure for the miles-cash split.

Not sure if I understand you correctly there.

LM should have spelled out in the confirmation email (with the booking code) the number of miles required for your particular booking.

You shouldn't have to argue that when you called up. That is only for the actual payment.

As for the actual payments they never offered me the chance to vary the miles / $$ components and, fearing failure, I did not challenge them.

The phone calls were already interminably long even without the variable slider.

They rang me before I could ring them. I asked to confirm the $ and the miles being deducted. The part pay of the miles with cash was double and so was the miles. I refused and said it was incorrect. For some reason they were doubling it because they thought it was a return trip and not a one way even though there was no confirmation for flights back nor was I asking for any. Then came the split itself. I stated exactly what proportions I wanted in my email (which was agreed by the LM email team), but the phone people wanted to use thay miles split per person and not as the total miles being deducted. That caused me to send them a screenshot showing exactly the breakdown I wanted. That resulted in call #2 from them (again, I never rang them) which was a success. In the end I got exactly what I wanted it just wasted a bit of time!

Unable to process cancellations via the automated system is almost a constant feature actually.

I finally managed to do on the nth attempt back in December. Miles were returned quickly but I have never seen the taxes refund. Although they took the 50USD fee and refunded the miles they tell me via email support that the refund was 'not processed properly'. Now they want me to send in full colour copies of my passport in order to finalise the transaction...WHY!? The system accepted my PIN, charged me the $50 and they gave the miles back...what further authorisation do they need to refund the taxes!

BC, I never received a tax refund from a booking I made around two years back - I emailed them constantly with what they requested in terms of screenshots and statements but the money never came even with clear evidence that it had not been refunded. In the end Citibank refunded me. This was a one off though, the other 2-3 cancellations were received fairly quickly.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I cancelled 3 bookings last week and no problems at all. Albeit i did specify them to call me at 9-11am New York time, they ended up calling at 6pm New York time (luckily 7am Perth time). But this time they just took all my creidt card info and said they would process it and hung up. I timed it at 12 mins all up. Was the shortest LM call i've ever had with them that was productive!...and booking was cancelled in next 4 hours - not sure if they were having issues behind the scenes and thus took ti upon themselves to process offline rather than standard protocol of making me wait whilst bookings were cancelled.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Am flying 6 March BKK to SYD in F so should hopefully be right for that.

Phew! It looks like my flight was unaffected. Seriously, if I get downgraded again on my BKK-SYD leg, that would really sucks.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

My TG471 on Apr 21 (Tue) was cancelled. Moved to 475 instead. almost 14 hour connection now instead of 2. At least its still F. Will just book Novotel. Quite enjoyed the stays there. And more time in F lounge.

Looks like 471 only available on Thurs/Fri/Sun

Took an hour but seems their automated systems were working OK

Was able to cancel 3 flights and miles back in my account.

Hopefully will get a little back from the taxes les $150 in cancellation fees.

It's a shame they can't have all this done via their web site. It would certainly cut down on the volume of calls they handle.

Note to self. Don't book with LM unless absolutely sure as the pain to cancel is quite high

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

About to book flights (as a surprise) for my parents for my Dad's 60th! Booking TG J Mel-BKK. The only flights available are TG461 and TG462. I'm hoping that the flat beds return on that schedule by July. Then if SQ flights open up, I'll change the booking to SQ.

Have a crack at MEL-KUL. You may find MEL-SIN available as part of that...convince the LM support team to let you book just that leg or simply ditch the other flights. Coming back, however, you'll have to wait to see if SQ J still has availability at T-14.

Thanks a lot!

the LM call centre is restricted to selling what we can see ourselves on line.

If you want to construct an itinerary, you will need to email LM support using the process outlined above.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Thanks for your assistance Mel_Traveller and Beta4Me. After looking at your suggestions, the only SQ flight available is SQ238 with the angled seats in J (refitted 700-300). I think I'll just stick with TG J direct to BKK then.

Thank you once again.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Called Lifemiles regarding our cancelled TG471. TG confirmed the new flight TG475 with us and wanted us to contact lifemiles to reissue the ticket. (didn't know we had to get ticket reissued until I called TG). Connection is over 8 hours so we were a bit worried that they wouldn't reissue ticket.

I'm quite impressed with their Protection/Schedule change department. No hold time and took less than 5 mins to sort everything out and they can reissue the ticket with no issue.

I tried to call earlier today and wasted 45 mins being transferred to different agents (including Spanish speaking one who transferred me back to the first person I spoke too LOL) and was eventually told to call back 10 pm Sydney time when that department is open.

Same experience here (reported up-thread). Once you speak to the right department it's painless.
