re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Just wondering if you are able to book for other family members on your Avianca LifeMiles account even if I am not travelling?

Was thinking should be OK but wanted to be 100% sure before I purchase these miles.

You can book for whoever you like. I have booked tickets for my dad.

There are SYD-SIN flights operated by regional business class aircraft so this is not necessarily surprising.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Ah... wasn't aware of that... have only flown the A380 out of SYD.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Is the LifeMiles booking engine working for anyone at the moment?

A friend who I clued in to this scheme was trying to make a booking and kept getting an error after clicking continue on the page where you select a flight and change the miles/dollars ratio. Just tried it myself and same thing.

Normally I'd just assume a transient error and wait a bit, but it did the same thing on Friday when I was messing around pricing up some itineraries.

Anyone? Could someone else with enough miles to proceed past the screen in question please test it for me?

Also, does anyone know if LifeMiles (plus bonus) show up immediately after you purchase them? I think they do, but can't 100% remember from when I last bought.

As mentioned on FT by...well one of our esteemed Aussie posters there is something going on. I just tried MEL-SIN. Where it used to be 45k it's now 47.5k.

When I clicked continue on the page you refer to I did go on to the passenger details screen.

And yes...miles post instantly...bonus n'all.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I think we have a miles devaluation!

SYD-LHR previously 100k in F....now 105k. I blame the scammers!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Awww, not fair... Looks like some of those comparison tables between LM and USDM are going to have to be rejigged...

Thanks for the info / test bcworld, appreciate it. I'm still getting the same error but I think I figured it out what is triggering it:

1) I search for 2 J seats MEL-TYO (generic code for Tokyo) on 23/10/2013.

2) Search returns TG466 MEL-BKK connecting with TG640 BKK-NRT.

3) I select, go to min miles / max cash and click Continue.

4) Error occurs.

Repeat the same search MEL-NRT (instead of generic TYO code), get shown and select the same flights, hit Continue, and it works.

So, as a tip for everyone: there may be a problem booking itineraries where you've searched using the generic code for cities with multiple airports. I haven't tested anything other than Tokyo though.

As an additional oddity, earlier today I was running the same search (to TYO) on 24/10/2013, and if I selected "11am" as the departure time it would show two SQ flights (regional business 777s) as an option. Same issue with error being thrown if I tried to proceed. However, in this case re-running the same search using the specific airport (can't remember if it was Narita or Haneda) resulted in the same flights not being found / offered. What does everything think was going on here? LifeMiles glitch, or "ghost flights" that weren't actually available?

Bugger - I noticed the same thing searching earlier today but didn't have a chance to look into it. Still, can't really complain about a measly extra 10k miles for an Australia to Europe return in F - still an amazing bargain.

Scrub this last part - I just re-searched this same itinerary (2 x J, MEL-HND, 24/10/13) and the SQ flights appeared this time. It also allowed me to continue to the next screen without erroring :D.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Hoping for a little help here to avoid unnecessary call centre contact:

I helped a friend book a MEL-xSIN-HND itinerary (as per my recent posts) in J for 2 pax. The flights are both on SQ. The first pax has three names (i.e. first middle last) and the second has only two (i.e. no middle name).

All names were correctly entered when making the booking, but it appears things have gotten a little confused behind the scenes. Looking up the itinerary on CheckMyTrip is it now showing:

Pax 1 - Document 202-xx_xx_xx_xx: Melbourne - Tokyo First Middle Last (no title listed)
Pax 2 - Document 202-xx_xx_xx_xx: Melbourne - Tokyo First Title Last (so "Mss" in between the first and last names)

Checking the booking on SQ's website shows the same:

Pax 1 - Title First Middle Last
Pax 2 - First Title Last

Does this need to be corrected prior to the journey? Or can it just be fixed at the airport upon checkin.

On a similar note, how important are middle names in general? i.e. if someone has a middle name in their passport, is it a problem if their booking is made using only the first ane last names?

Thanks.

Haven't looked for links yet but I am sure I have read about the same stuff before on either AFF, FlyerTalk or Milepoint-I seem to recall it was all OK

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

There is never a need to use middle names on the actual booking. The only country that requires a middle name is the USA and that can be added with the passport information, the middle name is still not needed for the actual airline reservation.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Just booked my flights for next year (along with my SO):

BNE-xSIN-HKG (J with SQ)
HKG-xBKK-CDG (J with TG)
LHR-xBKK-SYD (F with TG)

(and using my QFF points to return from SYD-BNE. Unfortunately QF19 is booked out in J for that day, so I have to go to the domestic terminal)

I was just wondering what I need to check to ensure that everything is all "sorted":
- Eticket numbers for each part of the trip have been provided
- The itinerary shows "OK" for each segment

Is that all I need to check? I'm hoping that I won't need to call Avianca or Taca up from here on in.

Fingers crossed it all works out :D.

PS I'd be grateful for any tips or hints for the trip (e.g. preferred/better lounges in each airport, things to ask for/try on board :))

you just need to call, for added peace of mind, SQ and TG. Ask them to retrieve the bookings and ask specifically 'do you have a ticket number against this reservation?'
