re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

There are plenty of seats SYD-HND later next year. I had 2 midweek in Sept but just lost them due to credit card issues - hopefully they will re-appear in the next day or so. They also show up on the website for a SYD-LHR redemption & unlike CA appear to be bookable (I just used the wrong CC).

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I would continue on, so you can experience the F lounge. It's quite hard to ditch the last leg cuz you will be "escorted" through transit security and into the F lounge on the departure level.

Just remember BKK-NRT/HND gets aircraft changes all the time and a very high likelihood you will be downgraded to J from F (happened to me 2/2 times!).

BKK-KIX seem to be a safer bet.

I did BKK-HKG and got lucky that I kept my A380, they still fly BKK-HKG on the A380 with Thai but you have to fly a redeye ex-Australia, SYD-BKK arriving 2:50AM but BKK-HKG leaving around 8AM, with the Royal First lounge not open until 5AM.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Thx.
I did put in HND, not NRT. I thought maybe because they don't start flying till end of year, there's no award seats just yet.

You are too late. When the award inventory was loaded in Aug, the space was wide open. But for Jan/Feb you are looking at school holiday, ski season and Chinese NY. Those seats disappear like crazy.

Even revenue ticket you will struggle. I could not find seats in Y on Feb 13. Days before and after you are looking at close to $2000 return.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

For all the email method bookers, when I made a booking last week I got an English speaking agent, but they said the person they needed to complete the booking only spoke Spanish and they would relay all the details...this included the credit card details which, in my experience of cancellations anyway, is normally done through the automated system with no agent involvement.

One week later and my 28 degrees card has been compromised. One transaction of nearly $1500 has gone through and several others in the $500 - $1000 range declined.

I could be putting 2 and 2 together and getting the wrong answer of course!

Does anyone have something like this for some of the major carriers for Star Alliance?

You sent in the email and an english speaker called you back? Or you spoke to the call centre (no email) who said they would set up the booking?

With the email method (no other contact to set up the booking), they will call you back on a conference call... the payments department and a translator. You give them all the details which are then relayed in spanish, and the ticket is then issued shortly after.

It's not uncommon for authorisations, or ticket receipts to be issued with all sorts of charges and fees showing, but the final credit card bill is usually correct (minus all the additional fees). If the transactions have actually posted that's not a good sign :(

It's definitely fraudulent as attempts were being made over and over again to use it this morning, I think only the first (largest) one was successful. The tickets were issued a week ago.

I missed the call back from AV but I knew it would be from them. I called back the AV US generic number, other than that the process is as you described.

I only use my 28 Deg card for foreign currency transactions...other than Avianca it was last used a month ago.

So the ticket was issued correctly at the time, and correct payment taken? These 'new' charges are separate?

If Avianca has already billed you I'd contact 28 degrees for advice.

Totally separate. I doubt they are made by Avianca. I and 28 Degrees don't yet know who the merchant is...will have to wait and see on that one.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm reading the fine print on LM site and this is what it states..
Take this opportunity to travel for fewer miles with Star Alliance. From September 8[SUP]th[/SUP] to October 15[SUP]th[/SUP] 2015 in Star Alliance airlines members and travel until October 2016, enjoy our promotional table with discounts up to 50%.

  • From October 16[SUP]th[/SUP], 2015 regular redemption table published in Star Alliance Air Ticket Redemption Table applies, available in LifeMiles.com.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

So, I assume the 15th Oct deadline is only for the promo award redemption, not to use all of your purchased miles..right??

correct. there was a special discount for some routes... within Asia and within usa I think. those expire now and the regular table applies after that. points continue with their usual validity.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

can you share which routes having the promo ?

In my experience they called me, with an English speaking agent and a Spanish speaking agent on the line. My Spanish is good enough to understand what was being said, but not good enough to relay all of the information myself or answer questions. Everything went through fine, haven't had any issues with my card (this was done months ago).

Looks like co-terminals are not allowed anymore.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I can still see HND / NRT connections.

Ever tried booking them with the agents?

Maybe they take a dimmer / slimmer view when they piece it together manually.
