re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Yes, that's true. But that's their value/cost at this point in time.

I think if you work through an example of how you would do it in practice, you will get the idea quickly.

Yes but most of already have points in our accounts and therefore we can buy more at 1.5 cpp.

OK, well it seems that we can just exclude the initial cost of the orange so I'll just go suck a lemon.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

You do not need to exclude it, you just need to minimize it. Which is possible because there is no limit on the number of transfers, and they keep doubling.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Has anyone tried to make a screenshot booking since they allowed mixed cabins? Not sure if screenshot bookings are still allowed?

Yes.
Emailed s/shots 23:40 (31st Jan), had the itin in my inbox 06:29 next morning (1st Feb). They called late that night for authorisation and payment, ticketed and in my inbox the next day (2nd Feb).
Travel later this month.

Still not great, as the crummy exchange rate now makes it ~2.1 cpp.

Yep, is always sad punching it in to xe.com. Looking at Southeast asia and it goes from what used to be $1350 return in Business class to $2000. Still a great deal for business but not as good as it used to be!

Yes - with the AUD around .7 (taking into account the effective rate when paying with credit card + the 3% foreign currency fee) return to Europe is close to $5500 - I've seen some great combo fares on LH & CX or QF or TG for as low as $5300 return in business. AY also have some good combo fares. I've stopped buying points in both LM and AA for the time being - will use up what I've got stockpiled then look at paid fares.

It's probably still an OK proposition if only flying to Asia and even North America (where discount business class fare are still pretty high) but to Europe not any more.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi All

I have an upcoming flight - BNE YVR YEG YYZ

AC036
AC250
AC154

Air Canada have just moved flight AC250 to AC240 which means I arrive in YEG after AC154 departs.

I have been on the phone 3 times to LM trying to sort out and they are insistent that it is AC problem. Of course, AC say it is LM ticket and they must rebook and reticket you.

Must I keep HUACA until LM fix this or has anyone got a suggestion for me to try to fast track this issue for resolve

Thanks again for your help

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

There is a specifi option in the call centre menu for this which might help you get to the right people (press 2 for English, 3 for lifemiles and then I think its option 1)

Otherwise, email seems to work best

I use the USA call centre options 2 3 3... No LM rep there now anyway as middle of the night. I will send email and see what happens.

I had this happen to me and my family on SA last year. I emailed SA and they told me to contact LM which I did by phone. I gave them the PNR and the 4 e-ticket numbers and told them the SA flight was cancelled and that I wanted to get on an earlier flight. The rep checked the flight had been cancelled, made the change and LM re-issued the e-tickets 1 at a time over the next few hours. I could see them popping up on CheckMyTrip first and then by the morning I had 4 email confirmations from LM.

I called the San Salvador number (503) 2267-8224 from Melbourne around midnight. Was on the phone for maybe 15 minutes max.

My experience with a similar situation (South African cancelled a flight from GRU to JNB and automatically rebooked me on a flight that arrived after my connecting flight from JNB to PER departed) was that LifeMiles told me first to get South African release seats on the flight I wanted first and then LifeMiles would re-issue the ticket. That's exactly what happened - I called South Aftican, they opened 2 seats on an earlier fight, I rang LifeMiles and got to talk to someone in their "Involutary Changes Department" and got a ticket reissued by Avianca. All in all took 3 days and and a few phone calls. Lots of nerves, too

was it a São Paulo to JNB flight? See my post above - my experience was quite different! I suppose it depends on whether you're lucky to get a cluey phone agent or not

No, JNB - DUR. I flew MUC - JNB on SA to connect through to DUR but they cancelled the DUR flight and put me on an earlier one, which worked out better for me anyway.

The LM English call centre is open from midnight to 10am AEDT.

I usually nest my EU trips and I recently got a few OSL-SYD in CX for about A$3400; and its in J all the way, not a combo fare.

Hahah, sounds like an episode from Fawlty Towers to me!!!

Yes - I've looked at these sort of fares ex-OSL (or other European cities) but have found it a bit too complicated to schedule using the nested approach. We usually travel one return to North America, one or 2 to Europe, and one to 'other' per year.
