Re: Avianca Life Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here

Thanks. Must have missed it..

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I was speaking to LM last week while processing a booking and asked what the deal with Air China was.

They said only temporary and should be fixed in a month or so...

Somehow I don't believe them but I don't want to try them MEL-PVG-CAN if possible.

that would be welcome news! it's been 'broke' for well over a year. MEL-PVG is a perfect redemption... no mucking around transiting in bangkok, Singapore or Hong Kong.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Did anyone else just get the email? They have bumped all the bonuses up 10% so now the maximum is 135% bonus.

AUD has probably nullified that since the start of the promo though!

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Bought during the weekend as I need to book a quick trip to Japan thinking they might bump the bonus last minute like last year.

United is giving 100% bonus for 4 days as well which is good for me as I go to south east asia often and is a bit cheaper than lifemiles in TG F plus free stopover on return ticket.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Have to do some sums on the 135%, but figure even at the minimum miles it will probably cost a bit in A$...

purchase the max for US$ 5000 and you get 352,500 miles. That's about AUD$7000 for 2 x business class Aus > Europe/US return, or 1 and 1/2 returns in First.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

nit had much luck finding the email address people have used for the screenshot method to make a booking

haviing one I want to make in the next couple of days

is someone able to add it as a sticky first post in this thread?

You can get a EU-Aus return in J for about the AUD4k mark on either BA or CX ticket. BA has regular specials that brings it down to around AUD3.4k. With the right routing, you can earn over 800 QF SCs on these tickets. That is why I haven't bought any miles since the AUD started its steady decline below the $0.85 mark. The business case is just not there anymore :-(

Yeah I agree with this for Europe. It still makes sense for Asia though, especially North Asia, gee they were dam cheap when it was at parity.

That's if you start in Europe. You won't get those fares originating in Aus.

Interesting point.

Would you hold the same view do you think for AUS - USA ?

I also try and work out pricing of a revenue ticket vs buying points and the obvious difference being the SC earn in favour of the revenue..But whenever I look at USA trips I rarely see J seats return in that sort of lower $$ bracket.

Then I see routings via YVR on points cheaper than normal that get my attention and just look to pay the fare from YVR to the USA port.

Having said that, at exchange of +/- $0.72 it has become increasingly harder

The example works for me because I do more than one Aus-EU trip per year, so I've positioned myself to do EU-Aus return trips. I am not aware of good deals on Aus-US trips, as I have not had a need to research that route. Maybe someone who travels to the US often can do some homework and report back?

And to me the points you earn also, so an AA return Y ticket Perth to LAX for $1150 or so during some of the sales, use two system wide upgrades to upgrade in each direction to J the AA transpac flights, and as an Ex Plat it also earns 40,000 or so AA miles, which is enough for like 2 return economy flights anywhere in Australia (which flying QF from Perth must be close to $800 of value even during QF sales), one return J flight within Australia (roughly $4000 value) or a J one way flight up to Asia... Not bad for that $1000 or so original cost...

No, but you may get them starting in Singapore or a quick hop up to somewhere else in Asia...
