re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

If you can see the mixed class booking on the search engine it can be booked but if you try and make your own mixed class routing you will most likely get this message :

Thsnks for confirming. Where is the dislike button?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi All,
just to share that airline routes are actually specific, and filed by each airline in various combinations between the airline and partners, via several combinations of routes. they are not just a patch-work of connecting segments strung together.

a good place to investigate routes is this site below.
Specify departure airport, arrival airport and carrier airlines (up to 3) .
If the route doesn't show, it doesn't exist. simple as that. doesn't matter if all sorts of individual segments pop up in a route someone cobbled up on LM.com.
e.g. SYD-ICN-HKG-BKK-FRA-LHR....looks realistic, but doesn't exist in all the choices available, even if you hope a OZ/TG/LH combo exists.

amadeus.net availability: TIMETABLE INFORMATION

That's a pretty cool tool!

Worth pointing out however that not all airline FF redemptions are based on published fares or published routings. AA has such as restriction, not sure if LM is the same (haven't seen that written anywhere).

The other thing to be aware of is that the amadeus tool doesn't seem to show all allowed routings? For example PVG-MEL KA/CX/QF doesn't bring up PVG-HKG-SYD-MEL, which is an allowed routing (with a published fare) on KA. Unless I have done that wrong? (other combinations come up via SIN though)

As MEL mentioned, published routings do not always apply to awards. If you were familiar with US Airways Dividend Miles you would know very well that given the right agent you could book almost anything you wanted...and many did! Similarly, LifeMiles.com clearly does not always enforce published routings as evidenced by some of the bizarre MPM busting routings that have been historically available.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi -its more nuanced that that. Even when its on the website, they won't book it unless all of the destinations are on the website. Bkk - ICN was on their website as mixed class (the routing they gave me was BKK-HKG in F and HKG to ICN in J), I wanted to add it to ICN - JFK and they would not let me do it.

Hi Lifemiles seems to be 'glitching' today. Because i can see bookings thru bangkok via TG to paris next year in F Class and J Class. Maybe it has opened up again. !!

Yep. I noticed a few strange things earlier today including an SQ F.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Wow. Just wow!

I'm not sure what you're seeing but what I'm seeing is weird! No idea if it's business or first...it claims to be both!?? But prices as the former.

yeah - says it is the business cabin - but 'product' = first. Must be F class, but whether LM honours it?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Care to PM the route?

If you have a look at the 'standard' routes available in F - SQ SIN-DEL - if you select your date and 'first' it returns business class cabin availability. However - the points required are at the F level. Clicking through indicates 'cabin - business' but 'product - first'.

DEL-Germany is the other classic F route, same same applies to AI for example. Shows business but prices as F.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Just a mistake in the search engine.
All ANA J SYD-HND is showing availability in the F tab for 50k LM even though F does not exist on that route with ANA.ana.jpg

Thanks for pointing out. Good thing is that it is still displaying in J column so for people booking in J can still book online. But true, don't accidentally book it in F thinking that it is F.

However, could that be a sign that ANA is upgrading to a 77W on SYD-HND route? I flew it last Fri and it was virtually full in J so I won't be surprised if ANA decides to use a bigger plane as JAL did.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

As this example shows, there's no real pattern to the "glitch"

If I select "Business" as the product for 78,000 I get this:

lifemiles4.jpg

which has a Business/Business option and an Economy/Business option for 78,000 miles. Neither of which are bookable (Air China)

If I select "First" for 102,000 miles as the product I get this:
lifemiles3.jpgwhich has
Business/First as expected (not bookable)
Economy/ First as expected (not bookable)
Economy/Business not expected... but bookable.. as it is different to the first one above (no Air China). So it suggests to me that you may be able to find a few more options if you check both products and then perhaps use the screenshot method to get the correct miles price.

So the most up to date "enhancement" is putting J in F column making it more expensive.

Things like SIN-HND-SYD in NH J are now bookable again, too.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

It doesn't relate to the latest glitch. But I spoke to LM last night on phone to reset my account password.

They couldn't help me at all. I tried resetting through the website, I never get the email. I even emailed and tweeted them... nothing! I've got 50k miles I would like to use!

Sometimes LM can great but sometimes they also really grind my gears!!
