re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Searching CGK-SYD pulled up SQ CGK-SIN in F then SIN-SYD in J. SQ F bookable by Lifemiles? Might be of interest to someone...

'regional F' is bookable. But there aren't many of them. DEL and BOM sometimes have availability as well.

I recall SQ used to use the 388 to BOM. Do you know if this is still the case ?

yes it is, but never had a problem with SQ doing this in the past. The message is standard - don't worry about it

you can select seats on line. if the main website dun work sometimes the mobile site returns better results. being able to do it yourself is better so you can monitor if a better seat comes up.

You can sometimes use TG's MMB function to select SQ seats

Thanks all for the above suggestions - didn't work unfortunately so I had to pick the phone up and ring Sq - all sorted now! :p

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

We have used LifeMiles for a few years now & have basically booked well ahead of time & been able to get our desired "straight forward" requirements by being flexible in where we start & finish our holiday & no "set in concrete dates"
Several years ago a mate took a shine to the idea of LifeMiles and purchased 200,000 miles. I am happy to help him but I am also looking for some guidance from people on here:
Scenario is- 2 people travelling, out of Syd in Sept 2017 & return about a month or so later. Travel on LifeMiles probably in J with any conneccting flights in either Y, Y+ or J. First snag is they are intent on flying into LHR.

My thoughts are SYD-LHR return is super hard to get (have been looking) so perhaps best to use LifeMiles to say HKG or BKK & return & then purchase revenue tickets for travel from Asia to LHR & return.
I would appreciate thoughts of if I am on the right track & ideas on the best Asian hub to use if that is the case.:?:

I just had a quick look searching Sept 13 (random date) in 2017. Came back for two seats on TG SYD-BKK-LHR.

Sept 11, 17, 18, 20, 22 also available for two seats, straight through on TG. Haven't searched any further because the system is fairly slow.

Thanks. Have seen some one ways such as that but my monitoring of trying to get a return on the same booking seems to indicate the odds are slim. If it was me I would be booking that one way to LHR & then have a flexible attitude to getting home-unfortunately my mate is set on also coming back from LHR & thus I can see problems of him being possibly stranded for a Lifemiles flight home. My worry then is because of being inflexibe they get stuck with trying to find a cheap one way revenue ticket home from LHR

I'd probably point out that the cancellation fee for LM is USD50. I'd buy the one way and then search in a month for the return. Plenty of options to come back via multiple EU cities (with connecting flight to those cities out of LHR). If they don't like any of the return options they can cancel the LM outbound booking.

Going back to one of your original questions, SYD-BKK (TG F) followed by Sri Lankan to London on revenue would be a good option.

What was the verdict regarding cabin showing as Business and product as First Class?

CDG-BKK-SYD carrier TG selected F search. Lists all business under first class tab, but shows business class miles price. Without specifying carrier nothing shows. Leg by leg search shows availability.

Reposting this because I want to book this next time there is a points sale. I can do it online at business class cost but it says First Class product. Anyone book one like this?

My understanding is that this has been fixed in their most recent update. So while business class might still show up under the first class tab, points cost remains correct. From what I've personally seen the same flights show up on the business and first class tabs for the same cost.. Not sure why but.. Yeah..

Is there a MPM with Lifemiles bookings?

Trying to get from SYD to either ORD or BNA. Only option in J appears to be SYD-HND-ORD

It doesn't show up as a route automatically, so will need the screenshot method.

Secondly - is there a list of all the fees etc somewhere easily accessible?

I am wondering if I book SYD to ORd and then need to tack on ORD-BNA whether a) it is permissible and b) the fees make it redundant.

In addition to the $25 processing fee, the only other charges are actual taxes, so the additional flight to BNA is likely to be better value if you can include it on the ticket.

I wouldn't worry about MPM. Send off your screenshots and see what they come back with.

My issue is that I won't really use the points otherwise - so don't want a scenario where i have the points and unable to ticket. So I am trying to get all my ducks in a row before buying the points.

The fact that the online system doesn't pick up Syd-HND-ORD as an option, despite only a 5 hr connection concerns me.

Interestingly - some of the internal USA flights seem the hardest to find.

Most connections no longer show up on Lifemiles irrespective of the transit time. In some cases you can force a connection to show automatically by selecting the airline from the drop-down list, but in others you need to screen shot it.
