re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

UA doesn't allowing going through North Asia to get to South Asia any more, so MEL-PVG-BKK is no longer valid. (Unfortunately, that makes some places impossible to get to (e.g. CEB) when the only *A carriers are from North Asia (e.g. OZ/CA/NH.)

Sad about Air China. CA's a useful option to have.

It really has dried up routings now they've taken out Nth Asia :( I saw MEL-PEK-HKG offered before they made the change.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi,

Can someone clarify with me what's the charge for an infant (under 2) in J? From this thread and Thai Airways rather wonky website, I read it as 10% but when I rang Thai Airways reservation today I was quoted as 20%.

Cheers

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Definitely 20% in J. 10% economy. A rip, yes. Paid $750 for an infant on MEL-BKK-MEL.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Thx. A bit ridiculous pricing given she'll be on my lap the whole time. Does free babysitting come with this?? :)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

No guarantees, but they tend to offer a special in Feb (or at least they have for the last 2 years) and then again in May.

Didn't realise there was an offer in February in 2015, here's hoping one comes up soon (and that it's a good offer)!

The Feb one is usually transfer bonus so it's 1.5cpp and you need some existing points to make the most out of it. (Although you can start by buying 1000 miles at RRP and go from there)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

As predicted, February transfer bonus email received!

"Transfer from one account to another and receive double the miles. For every LM 1,000 miles transferred, LifeMiles will give LM 1,000 more.
Offer is valid from Feb 1[SUP]st[/SUP] to Feb 08[SUP]th[/SUP], 2017. A fee for transferring miles between accounts applies, USD15.00 + taxes for every LM 1,000 block."

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

So you need a minimum of LM 1,000 miles and a minimum of two accounts to transfer?

Yes, but if you have no points you can purchase the first 1000 at the normal $33 rate to get started.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

This is not a bad deal at US1.5 cents a point.
Buying with a 100% bonus they come out at US1.65 cents a point.
the 140% bonus was a little better at US1.375 cents a point.

I have some experience with Thai and Air India but not Asiana.

Thai is great if you're on their new 787's ex Aus, though our eastern states friends may or may not be getting the fully lay-flat beds on all flights yet. Warning with Thai is that they can be somewhat unreliable with flight schedule changes when booking a long way out. But I definitely use them regardless, PER seems to suffer from less schedule changes but with less favourable onward connections.

Air India for me was hit and miss. Good hard product for those who like to sleep with legs akimbo. Entertainment content sufficient for one return Europe trip. Food interesting. One flight had the best service I've ever experienced and the next flight was on par with the worst ever. DEL airport is not my favourite, and the transfer desk was mayhem. We got through ok in the end, AI wouldn't accept our previously issued boarding passes on Singapore paper so we needed new ones, though this was communicated only by a furrowed brow and pointing towards the transfer desk. It took an extremely long time with lots of staff shouting at each other in ?hindi and not telling us if there was a problem with us or with the thousand other things they were dealing with at the same time. I would fly with them again, but probably prefer Thai.

It's not a great deal either... 1.5c is the standard price with top-up miles (points plus pay). No one should be buying 100% of their tickets at 1.65c (at most it would be 40% of the miles at the higher price and rest at 1.5c)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

No the standard price is 3.3 cents hence with the bonus 1.65 cents.
With points + pay it starts at 3.3 cents and gradually comes down the more you pay so can be good but this offer is the equivant of a 120% bonus when buying points.

On a 40,000 point one way to Aisa this current transfer deal would set you back USD600 (miles only, excluding taxes fees etc). With the 'standard' purchase using ~40% then topping up the price would be USD625. You would be saving USD50 on a return, but having to sit on miles. (Under the 140% bonus it works out to $550)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I am looking at coming home from EU early next year in TG F. I would like to return in LH F but have to wait until T-14d. If I book the TG FRA-BKK-MEL now-ish, can I change the booking to LH FRA-SIN TG SIN-BKK-MEL closer to travel date as the origin and destination would remain the same?

My alternative is two bookings FRA-SIN and SIN-MEL, book LH if/when I can and cancel the redundant FRA-SIN leg.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

150 usd/person change fee. If you have miles, better to book LH F before canceling the TG F reservation (50+25 dollars in total). Finally, expect to be shocked by the LH taxes coming out of Germany.

accounts need to be open at the time the promo starts (2/1st in this case)
