Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Not sure if it's been noted, but I'm seeing a fair bit of J award space later in the year on SQ SYD-SIN on the new SQ288 that picks up pax in CBR. First time I've ever seen LM show SQ availability in long haul J. Nothing available coming back the other way though.

Incidentally the LM booking engine still doesn't recognise CBR - I wondered whether SIN-CBR might have award space where SIN-SYD doesn't.

Isn't there a hack to get LM to accept destinations not loaded by LM?

It does recognize CBR, just not if you specify SQ as the airline.

Not sure how much of the (SYD-)CBR-SIN is actually bookable, LifeMiles shows availability even when SQ itself only shows Waitlist.

I managed to get flights using sing airlines without it showing on their website. The flights were showing on the united website. I emailed details. I gave them option 1 which was sing and then I gave them TG flights as option 2 telling them I really wanted option 1. When they called they gave me the sing airline flights

Nice work. So no screenshots for either or just the TG flights?

There was 2 connecting flights on sing that I wanted. The first flight ho chi Min to sing showed seats on Lifemiles so I did a screen shot of that. then below that I wrote connecting to flight sing to Melbourne with no screen shot. This was showing as available on united website.
I then did option 2 clearly stating if option 1 is booked out then book option 2. This hAd the screen shots. Flights from ho chi min to Bangkok and then connections on to Melbourne.
When they called me there was no talk of option 2 they simply booked the first option which was all Singapore airlines in bus class for 2 pax

The AFF Gazette I received today prompted me to re-read the terms & conditions of the scheme. I am trying to find somewhere that specifically says that buying new miles will extend my existing points pot by 12 months after 14th April-the article today today seems to assume that buying triggers an extension of all miles and that is logical, but we are talking Lifemiles. The term "miles accrual transaction" seems to be the significant term.
This is one part of the T & C's but doesn't specifically define buying miles as being a "miles accrual transaction"
e. Purchase of Miles:

  • Minimum of Miles to purchase: 1,000
  • Maximum of Miles to purchase per Member each calendar year, including bonuses in case of promotions: 150,000
  • Miles must be purchased in multiples of 1,000 Miles
  • Each Package of Miles is sold in blocks of 1,000 Miles at a cost which may vary depending on the channel and country where the purchase is made. The sale of Miles may be subject to local taxes, which may vary in each country. The price of the Miles package and applicable taxes shall be informed to the Member at the time of the purchase.
  • The Miles purchased and the additional Miles for bonuses during promotional periods do not apply to upgrade to Elite status
  • The purchase of Miles is an irreversible transaction which may not be reimbursed.
  • The purchases of Miles within the redemption process using the Flexible Payment option are not accounted for the maximum yearly miles purchase allowed.

I had similar doubts initially, but once I read the new terms, it doesn't give any wiggle room:
1) "Any miles accrual transaction in a member´s account in the Program extends the validity..." So there they've stated that _any_ accrual extends it - so the next question is then what is the definition of accrual, to make sure it's not limited to certain types.
2) "Accrual of miles means any transaction that increases the balance of the accrued miles in the member´s account " And there it's clear that purchasing miles increases the balance of your account, and hence meets the criteria.

I'm comfortable that purchases will extend the 12 month count.

anyone tried to redeem 4pax for SQ (KUL-MEL return) ? Just want to know the possibility to get 4 seats before buying huge chunk of miles :-)

Are 4 seats showing on the United site? I find united quiet good for availability. If it's not there I think you might struggle to get 4 seats. Is there another option? Maybe 2 x using SQ and. 2 x using TG as plan B

while not formal t&c or representation of lifemiles, i can absolutely confirm (2 years in a row actually) that i purchased 1000 miles and had an extension of my milage for another twelve months - this was as recent as 19/01/18.

Yes I have done that myself, but the question related to post 14th April 2018

managed to get 4 seats on some dates.. but on A330....guess it's still possible.. maybe i'll purchase half miles and half with cash payment since the price will be almost the same..

Yeah. Even with the bonus 40% the price difference between purchasing or topping up later (at 1.5c each) is minimal. But brings peace of mind that you haven't stockpiled tens of thousands of points.

Yup I noticed the same thing, SQ288 has wide open availability for months. I actually booked SYD-CBR-SIN-HKG last week, needed to send screenshots as they were only showing as separate segments, but otherwise all good.

I recontacted them to say there was availability using separate sectors with SQ on return flights (via lifemiles website) however they said they had no availability ??

I did a few screen shot bookings last week and they were all processed in 24 hours. All good except for the credit card decline and 6am call back from Bogota. (Despite calling my bank the transaction was still declined. But Citi bank goes through no problem.)

While finalising one of the bookings the agent said confirmed availability - as per the booking they had created and sent me 24 hours earlier - was no longer available and they had to move me to a flight an hour earlier. So I guess it can happen.

I guess with SQ it could be a time lag in the system and seat availability. Or quite possibly married segments.

I had a booking late last year using the screen shot method - worked a treat and included a 13 hour layover.

Looking at a flight for next year using the same method - thoughts on likelihood of getting a ticket with 21 hour layover?
