re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Nothing to do with the engine being down yesterday but just a general gripe. Trying to book MEL-SGN in business class either via BKK or SIN. The flights MEL-BKK, MEL-SIN, BKK-SGN and SIN-SGN are all showing availability when search as individual segments, but it won't price it as one trip. The only option it provides is MEL-SIN-BKK-SGN or MEL-BKK-SIN-SGN. The other ridiculous thing is that it will price in economy class correctly MEL-SIN-SGN on the exact same flights when I set the carrier as SQ. Anyone got any other tips? Might battle the call centre to see what happens, but they have some major bugs!

I'm not sure they're all bugs. Many SQ-SQ connections only show up within about 10 days of departure. I'd say that has to be by design.

Have you tried searching under SQ only ?
Sometimes (but not always) when I do that I get the desired results.

It was only to Europe that I noticed that SQ-SQ connections were showing as SoldOut.

Unfortunately this will often happen and is an annoying restriction of LM. You will find plenty of posts from others with the same frustrations and I have a similar one at the moment. I can almost guarantee that you will be wasting your time trying the call centre as their information will appear the same as you are seeing. If you can't get it to show up with the methods that others have suggested then I'm pretty sure they won't either.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I recently booked a flight in J on SQ metal. LHR - SYD via SIN but had to book as individual segments as it wouldn't show up as a complete itinerary even though there was just under 2 hours between flights.

Whereas it does happily price up at 87.5k if within 10 days of departure...so I think this logic is built in somehow.

Flight was dept LHR on 30.12 with no other availability showing so booked it straight away.

I don't think its a because of the short transit time.
SIN-LHR is 3 times a day and SYD-SIN 3 or 4 times a day.

I've done searches (from MEL) to SIN that shows all 4 flights in J as available and then from SIN-LHR on the same day/next day as showing available sometimes with options.
Some of these flights have either 2 hours transit, 4 hours transit or 7.5hrs transit or something like that.

But once I do MEL-LHR it shows as not being available.

So I don't think its the short transit time that didn't allow it but rather some sort of in-built restriction, which is annoying.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I suppose I would just love to know the reason behind it! But alas we will probably never know. Moving along to why I need to book these flights I actually need to cancel or change some to do so. The original flights SGN-BKK-MEL//MEL-BKK-SGN were booked before the small devaluation. So it cost me 38,000 miles plus $752.32 'miles purchase' plus $113.30 in taxes. So the total cost was USD$1435. Now with the devaluation in buying the extra miles since then I think I am better off paying the $150 to try and change the flights rather than cancel and get a refund. Anyone's thoughts?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

The one thing no one has commented on is that it does show in economy class, just not business, so it can't be an issue with the connection timing.

Agreed, hence there is a purposeful effort to make the J class flight more expensive by forcing 2 tickets to be booked...perhaps this reflects higher costs passed on by SQ. Perhaps they (SQ) charge less for close in bookings hence the 10 day thing.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

That's amazing, first time I have noticed that. The exact flights are available every day on SQ up until the 23rd of September and then nothing, I think you might be on to something there bcworld regarding cost. Will monitor it over the next few days as the flight's I am looking for are in November on a Sunday, to take the risk or not...

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Had to cancel our Xmas trip to Koh Samui yesterday because of a new job starting in November - gutted!! Rang the USA number and spoke to an American guy who made the process very straight forward.

Looking now for possible destinations for a week away before starting the new job......Vietnam top of my list currently as November seems the wet season in a few of my other options.

This may be a stupid question, but where you can see availability on a leg in SQ J A380/77W, has anyone tried booking it through USDM? Yes it won't show up on ANA, awardtravelr etc, but if its offered to AV LMs, wouldn't it be available to USDM if you gave them the specific flight you know LMs lists as available?
