re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

if i booked a lifemiles redemption on united metal... do you think i could somehow add my premier gold number to the reservation to get extra baggage, access to economyplus seating & lounge access... or am i being greedy?
That seems perfectly reasonable.

That would be fine, although how you achieve this will be another thing (mostly dependent on the carriers involved).

that was my line of thinking... so next question... anyone tried adding frequent flyer different from avianca lifemiles no? lol ... it's becoming all too hard

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Add it during check-in maybe, for less possibility of getting screwed up.

I think some airlines allows adding ff number online (e.g. SQ) although flying J and getting no miles I don't find it useful to me.

I've been able to do it via OLCI for every carrier I've flown so far (TG and SQ) and can already put in online by bringing up the booking for UA.

Ditto, no issues for TG or SQ.

Why would you need any of those? If you are in F or J then it would be included.

If your itinerary wasn't in F or J (i.e. Y), then you would be able to access those benefits.

If you have wholly domestic travel within the USA in domestic J or F (except for certain services), there is no access to lounges, even if you are a *G equivalent on UA Mileage Plus or US Dividend Miles. However, if you have *G with any other airline (e.g. TK), then you will have access.

*G also get 20 kg or 1 extra piece on top of their gazetted allowance, including if they fly J or F.

Admittedly, you usually do not have to add your membership number to the itinerary before check-in to enable those two aforementioned scenarios.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I have found it made a difference to seat selection in the J cabin.

What airline? Is there much reserving of J or F seating for status pax? Aren't all the seats fairly similar? I was able to select what I consider to be the best J seat on my upcoming SQ 77W flight without having entered my *A SG or VA WP FF numbers.

From memory some carriers can input your FF number on an AV redemption, some can't (I think I had about a 50% strike rate when I tried).

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I am taking advantage of a cheap trick to get to the USA, unfortunately in Y due to last minute trip (cost). Hoping to get econoplus seating to make the dreadful experience just a little bit more welcoming.

no no!!! first and business class are littered with seats that aren't as good as others... too close to WCs, too close to galley, missing windows... total minefield!! (look at a qantas 747 first class.. there are probably only two really good seats.. 3a/k, maybe stretch that to four if you include 1a/k).

on sq's 777 in particular... a business class seat by the wing is has a lot more noise and vibration than a seat further forward (like chalk and cheese difference)

If you have a UA account and the UA PNRs you can certainly do this on their system.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Seems like there have been some serious changes in availability for certain SQ routes at least out of MEL.
Was plentiful availability just like week in Dec/Jan to CGK and DPS before their maintenance update a few days ago.
Now I can hardly find anything. Even as far out as March the availability is scarce. Before you could even pick which flight you wanted out of MEL lol.

Has anyone else noticed serious changes in SQ J availability recently ?

I think it varies but is not deliberate, I was quite surprised with options SIN BNE this weekend with every flight on offer in one class or another, as it turned out I decided to try their A380 in J to see what it's like heading in the other direction, it finally ticketed overnight.

This could be the same issue I am having with the individual segments available but not the through connection to those destinations you list.

With the connection thing that you had an issue with, this was something I've noticed from the beginning (which for me was in June/July).
But availability to CGK/DPS and even SIN has just recently become quite rare it seems.

I have a wedding to attend in CGK on 11th Jan that in hindsight I should have already booked but a couple of months ago the availability was something like I could fly on the 6th, 7th 8th, 9th, 10th, and come back on the 13th, 14th, 15th with multiple flights available each day (I kid you not).

And now there is nothing for the ENTIRE month of december, january and february on any day in J to CGK lol I hope I am wrong but there seems to be something happening beyond the "natural" filling of seats and I suspect it may be to do with the maintenance that was happening a few days ago.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Hmmmm maybe the connection problem is now becoming more widespread ?
I used to have no issues with connections to other asian regional destinations on SQ in J.

But now just did a search for SIN leaving 26 sep returning 3 oct for 2 pax in J and coming up with plenty of options.
But MEL-DPS for the same dates also for 2 in J coming up as sold out for the whole week and even fully sold out in Y.
Hmmmm....

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

MEL-SIN one way in J on 11 oct 3 flights to choose from on the day i specified but MEL-CGK one way in J on 11 oct the whole week listed as SoldOut hmmm.....
