that is great news (if it comes to fruition)!

we have spent more money on lifemile points flying thai MEL-BKK than anywhere else. And let me tell you... those 777-200 bus seats lost their charm on the first trip 5 years ago!

AND looks like my TG osaka flight in first class has been upgraded to A380! Might have to reconsider flying 1st class into sydney, as i was trying to avoid that melbourne leg at all cost.

finally a good news airline industry story that affects me personally! ;-)

Bangkok – Melbourne Airbus A350-900XWB, with configuration of C32Y289, to operate following service, instead of 777-200ER:

so, no in this case

having chosen TG when they announced 787s to PER, $100 says TG will postpone MEL's A350 launch.....

My KIX-BKK flight also changed to A380 and another BKK-BNE leg was changed to B787.

So far positive changes but with TG you can't be 100% sure until you're boarding the plane.

Please would someone mind clarifying for me with a multiple airline redemption for say BKK - MCO ( TG/NH/UA ) in the event of a delay on one of the airlines I would be rebooked if I missed a connection.

As long as all your flights are on the same ticket, you will be protected in case of delays.

The rebooking process is frequently not automatic, however. As soon as you arrive off a flight and can't make the next one, you need to approach the customer service of the carrier who just took you to your current location. They will be responsible for reorganising the rest of your journey. The rebooking should be completed free of charge; if you are inconvenienced to a greater degree (e.g. last flight of the day, very long layover, etc.), make sure you check or think about negotiating additional rights for your inconvenience, within reason.

If you arrive at your location but your ongoing flight hasn't actually departed yet, try to get in touch with the onward carrier; they may be able to expedite your passage, hold the flight (unlikely), or otherwise help you (even if this means you need to go back to the arriving carrier). If you have truly misconnected (i.e. the onward flight has already left), then go to the carrier that just got you into the port.

Happy to have others weigh in on this, especially the part about which carrier has the responsibility at the location of the misconnect.

+1. Agree. I have misconnected twice on LM award tix, once in PEK (CA/CA) and once in SFO (NH/UA). Both times, the transfers desk rebooked me. CA even gave me an overnight hotel in Beijing!

Not sure what happened with NH overnight but all domestic award seats after 30 Nov (including Y) no longer there. Have tried multiple routes to no avail. Maybe they've cottoned on that its a busy time domestically and have pulled award seats?:(

Has anyone tried Rocketmiles using Lifemiles as their airline? I am working on the arbitrary figure that 1000 miles is worth about 20 AUD (this takes into account a 100% bonus on miles), and it some cases, looks quite a good way of earning miles

Except Rocketmiles usually charge a premium over other sites and very limited hotel options. So you are effectively "buying" miles. I still look at it but compare prices and see if the extra money is worth the extra miles.

I looked at a week in Krabi and the Rocketmiles booking price was about AUD$1300 more than the equivalent room category on other sites, however it came with 70,000 AA miles. At the moment buying 70,000 AA miles (80,000 gets you an F seat on Qantas MEL-LHR) is ~ AUD$2100.
So, yes, in this example you are effectively buying miles at a 40% discount.

However AA has a promo running, normally 70,000 points would be AUD$2800 so the discount would be nearer 55%.

Probably worth it if you are planning a One World booking soon.

Must be some other airline, or SQ, if it is AMS-SIN direct. I'm pretty sure EVA go via BKK for their single-stop services to Europe, unless it has changed.

Whichever airline got you into SIN would be responsible for rebooking you. Let's say it was AMS [BR] BKK [TG] SIN [SQ] BNE. If the AMS/BKK flight was delayed, but you still made the scheduled BKK/SIN flight, then nothing else happens, unless the BKK/SIN flight is also delayed. If the AMS/BKK flight was delayed and you missed BKK/SIN, you would need to approach EVA at BKK to get your schedule resorted. If they simply shoved you on the next BKK/SIN flight without ensuring you could make the rest, then once you get to SIN you're probably in a really tough spot, though you may be able to go after TG in this case since they "bear" the responsibility of your missing a flight on a protected connection.

Why would SQ not rebook you? They probably didn't have to, but they should usually proffer a reason, viz. tell you which airline to go to.
